Can anybody explain to me how it is possible for one company to 'raid' another and 'sieze documents' - The RIAA isn't a government body, so surely if they 'raid' and 'sieze', this is just 'tresspass' and 'theft'?

It doesn't actually mention the RIAA at all in that article, because it wasn't the RIAA who made the raids - it was the Music Industry Privacy Investigations (MIPI), who are a subsidiary of the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA).
Are you sure you even read it Jeff? Your answer is right in the article.... [addsig]

| The raids came after MIPI was granted a court order permitting it to search for evidence that KaZaA is complicit in the illegal trade of unauthorised copies of songs. The organisation plans to use documents seized in the raids in court proceedings |

Yea, but it still doesn't really seem right to me that a body that is not a government organisation can do this kind of thing, even if they do have a court order saying they are allowed to do it. It's almost like the police contracting work out.

Orph, I believe you're looking for the MPAA, not the RIAA. Though I wouldn't doubt that the RIAA has taken it upon themselves to rid the earth of everyone who has ever downloaded music, movies, games, or free offline versions of MSN games.
