considering, there are just to many themes to have a fair list, anything one writes down would cheat other themes..

scary,sci-fi,drama,historical,comedy,western,ect,ect

the list is long to say the least, i am sure that everyone has favorites, don't get me wrong, so do i, but i have about 50 favorites, all for different reasons.

if i had to put one up front of them all, for its re-watchability, it would have to be "dinosaur" my grandson watches it every time he is here, and i mean WATCHES IT... as in watch,rewind,watch,rewind,watch....

we have seen it so many times, i can lip sync it, the funny thing is, i just keep watching it with him.. might be cause its with him, i dunno, but there you are

One of my other favourites is Toy Story. If you don't like that film, then you must have a heart of Stone.

any of Monty Pythons films but perhaps especially "The meaning of life"...

i got a job for a day as an extra in the meaning of life, as a zulu warrior.

dunno if anyone remembers the scene from the zulu wars, where one of the monty team (cant remember which one) wakes up in his tent to find his leg has been eaten off. he claims it's not serious, and that the leg will grow back. anyway, the intro to that scene is titled as ............."the zulu wars" (just outside glasgow)"

all the actors that were to play the zulu warriors in that scene had gone on strike after two days of torrential rain. it wasnt the rain that caused the strike though. it was because Cleese demanded to know "what one of you black bastards done the rain dance." not very bright considering they all had pointy spears with them at the time.

you wouldn't believe how much a frizzy wig, a grass skirt and some black paint can alter someones appearance. i mean, guys that i had grown up with and knew really well were like strangers to me. i had one of my mates write my name on my back, as did most of us there, because it was so confusing. (a wet finger would write through the body paint)

some of the images that i have in my head from that day i dont think will ever fade. charging down the hillside (the campsies) dressed as a zulu screaming all sorts of unmentionable battle cries. standing in a quite village boozers with half the people there dressed in the old red british uniforms, tattered and torn, slings plasters and crutches, and the other half dressed as zulus, with spears in hand and their names on their backs, all quietly supping on their pints and g+t's.

i reckon it must go down as one of the strangest days i've ever had. and i got payed 30 quid into the bargain.

oh, and it all ended up on the cutting room floor.

dunno if that's cause of the strike/union thing, or if we all just sucked as zulus. i like to think it was the former.

Alien/Aliens (not 3/4)
Apocalypse now (redux)
Back to the future trilogy
Bladerunner
Gladiator (complete copy of 'the fall of the roman empire' but still good)
Indiana Jones trilogy
Jaws
Leon
Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
Once Upon a Time in the West
Pulp Fiction
Seven
Star wars (not 1/2)
The italian job (not the lame 2003 remake)
The good, The bad, and The Ugly
The matrix (1st only)
The shawshank Redemption
The Usual Suspects

Looks like 'battle royale' is one to see judging from people's comments. I've got the godfather but haven't watched it yet, looks like that might have been on my list if I had seen it. I'm trying to get a taxi film, I heard they were good. Obviously I wouldn't say no to watching any of the classic action films like die hard, but they don't get on to a list of best films in my opinion

Wow, Reno, you have excelent taste.

I was thinking about putting Brotherhood of the Wolf down, but, it blows on DVD (US anyway). The director Re-Edited it after it was done in theaters to make it a love story . . . wtf.

ALso . . . . WHO SAID THE ROCK!!!! YOU MUST DIE!!!!! MICHAEL BAY IS EVIL!!!! lol sorry, I hate Michael Bay a little too much.

I forgot to put up some foreign films I enjoy as well:

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (duh, Ang Lee is awesome! . . . So is Chow Yun Fat)
The Killer (was wonderfully depressing, you know, back when John Woo could actually Directed, and didn't choose no talent ass clowns like Nicholas Cage for leading roles . . .)
Thus, Hard Boiled, A Better Tomorrow also rule lol.

Reno, I know what you mean, I like Resident Evil too . . . but I can't figure out why. The acting is bad, the story is worse, but I loved it. However, I'm really excited about Apocalypse . . . The trailor is great: Resident Evil: Apocalypse (I know quicktime is evil, but meh.)

Lets see if this can take a different turn here . . .

How about you guys list a couple catagories instead.

Such as:
Favorite Action Movie:
Favorite Comedy:
Favorite Film:
Favorite Comic Book Movie (Damn Striaght):
Favorite Foriegn Movie/Film:
Favorite Drama (Anything other then what's previously listed:

In my opinion there is a different between a Movie and a Film. . .so if that's confusing, just ignore it.

Mined probably be (at the moment of course):

Die Hard
The Royal Tenenbaums (Rushmore, The Big Lebowski)
Fight Club (the film truly is Flawless, from a filming angle)
Either X2 or The Hulk, can't choose.
Theatrical Cut of Brotherhood of the Wolf (~sigh~ I'll never see it again, will I? lol)
12 Monkeys, Fallen, or A Clockwork Orange at the moment.

I didn't include horror because it's not a genre in my opinion.
Anyway, have fun! [addsig]

Dude, Where's My Car? Gah. Even as far as stupid stoner movies, you can do better than that one. Cheech & Chong, Wayne's World, Bill & Ted (although the drugs aren't quite as explicit in the last two). Guess it's better than How High, though.

I saw American Wedding and it just seemed too slapped together. I mean, on the one hand you do have the incredible comedic talents of Eugene Levy, Fred Willard and Jennifer Coolidge, along with the very promising Alyson Hannigan, but instead for some reason it just seemed to focus on Sean William Scott accidentally embarassing himself while trying to impress some chick who really wasn't that great. I can't figure out why they stuck with that plotline, it just didn't have it. January's (I know some months make good girl's names, but is January really one of em?) character seemed to change every scene she was in, the rivalry between Finch and SWS seemed muted as there wasn't really any back and forth. That other friend became even more so a background prop than in the earlier movies. Another thing is a lot of the dialogue was written so that characters have temporary deafness, not being able to hear what's going on right in front of their face... But I guess high-brow adult comedy and not just a more explicit PG-13 gross-out was too much to expect.

Ya well like I said I felt stupider after seeing "dude you godda tatoo", but still it was funny none-the-less. As for American wedding it was slapped together, I thought it was the nice final ending to the American series. So Ill change my runner ups and replace it with all monty python movies (yes brave sir robbin), no matter what anyone says, i thought they were the best, although watching it over and over gets boring a little, but never the "ni"

i hate to bring up ageisms, but most of the replies here are from within your own lifetimes, don't any of you like B/W movies?

i am willing to bet money, there are old movies as good, or better than now ones, without the special effects, most movies now, rely on them quite heavily.

yes my list has now movies too, but it most definitely has old ones too.

Casablanca, African Queen, Moby Dick, Sargent York, Carbine Williams, Ten Commandments (stop laughing i am agnostic, but i still feel its a very good movie) , yeah, many old movies are excellent.

I like some old movies, but I don't often like watching them.

Orson Welles' movies always keep me rivetted though. "Citizen Kane" is quite amazing, and "The Third Man" is brilliant as well. [addsig]

i think if the question was asked, what is the best B/W movies, id have to say

1) The old man and the sea.

2) Captains Courageous

3) Sargent York

4) African Queen

5) Mutiny on the Bounty

in that order

The Westerner and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance always rocked to me.

I'm not too big on the Romance Films (which were amazingly Ubundant) But Orph, they're not my favorites lol.

(The Usual Suspects isn't an action movie . . . it's more or less a Drama or suspense film).

Lol, Mattrats? that piece of funny garbage? (mixed statements I know)

"No way man, Lois could never have Supermans baby, the kid could kick right through her uterus wall, not to mention I bet he shoots a load like a shot gun right through her back"

Um, if you want to go older . . . There's always Bullet [addsig]

Young Frankenstein is B/W. Course, it was made that way cause they wanted to, not cause they had to. I've tried watching some older stuff, I have a copy of The Great Dictator on my comp that I haven't quite gotten through. The style is just entirely different, and sometimes I have trouble getting in to them because I'm not as aware of the social situations in which they were made.

As people should be able to see, my movie tastes really tend towards the humor end of things (hence the detailed analysis of American Wedding). I think the 70's marked a dramatic change in what goes into a comedy, with the rise of Mel Brooks, SNL, and Second City Alumni running around. It's kept changing, especially once those PG-13 ratings jumped in - Blues Brothers would never be made as it was today (hence Blues Brothers 2000, ugg). I think subtly humorous movies are really on the rise, with people like Wes Anderson, PT Anderson, Guy Ritchie, etc. making films.
