Does this sort of thing not happen with Lunix because it's 'invincible', or because people don't bother?
Oh, and that is possibly the most retarded, unhelpful piece of news ever posted, I have a feeling this is old news but if it's not where can I read up about it, is there a patch, etc.?

Probably in the "don't bother" reasoning. And since most viruses are just annoyances and not really trying to do much they're created and designed on an OS that majority uses.

I don?t know what your beef is with Linux/Unix, Lep, but it doesn't really make sense.
My beef with Microsoft is on a programming level, in case you were wondering.
I also am not one of your paranoid/geek users of Linux as you so often bring up. The point is, if it does what you need it to so be it! I'm not telling people to not use Windows for games or anything like that, but you can't say Windows doesn't have its flaws. Because it does, and most of them you have to wait for Microsoft to fix, unlike in other Operating Systems. If you need something done you can do it your self, if it really needs to be done; which I, and most other developers, like.
They both have pros and cons and it's really starting to piss me off that you don't recognize the cons of Windows and only the cons on Open Source material, such as Linux.
In my opinion, Microsoft deserves to be bashed on for their business practice and their programming policies, and obviously if you care about neither then why are you whining about Linux all the time? Because after all those are the only differences.
That's just the way I feel about it. And the fact that Microsoft didn't fully test their deep embedded functionalities properly causing this "leak" is their fault and they should be blamed for it. The bigger problem is they don't fix the problems until someone says something. Or they themselves are having troubles with it.
Don't take any of this the wrong way, I have respect for you because of this site and its/your helpful nature, but, on the front of Operating Systems, you're not looking at the functionalities most people use but just your own. At least that is how it comes off.
[EDIT]
Ther article clearly states there is a patch on Microsoft's site

I do think that linux is more secure though. With windows, you only have the dev team and some virus writers looking for holes, but with linux, you have potentially thousands of people who are looking for holes with the intention of fixing them, or at least reporting them if they find any. I don't know if that is the reality or not, but that's why I'm inclined to think of linux as being the more secure. I would never use it as my main operaiting system though, simply because I think it's stupid to use linux, but run most of your games in a windows emulator...

I don't like the UNIX stuff for Windows, it doesn't act like it should ( I don't want .h libraries to go away! I don't like namespaces
)
I get some weird errors on Windows machines. I just wish that MS would at least attempt to follow some sort of pre-set international standard, I mean it seems that now they're starting to, but Jesus man! It took them almost ten years!
I wholeheartedly agree with both you Hornpipe and you Lep. However, I do favor Linux, because of what I use my machines for and to be honest, if I could get Hammer working under Wine, then I would wipe Windows off my main computer, because of sick of its s**t, plain and simple.
Microsoft's, in my opinion, effort is too little too late.
Now, for developing MS apps . . . tough, not going to happen from me. Two reasons. 1st: their IDE SUCKS ASS, I hate the MS compiler and everything about it. 2nd: UNIX/Linux apps work under Windows (for the most part).
But as long as Hammer (until I learn Radient, don't care if I spelt it wrong) and games, are made utilizing DirectX or XFree86 doesn't cover DX, I'll have to keep a Windows machine around.
The only real reason to use Windows dev tools is to get a job for a company, or your county.
However, my opinions don't extend to general users. But, I don't like IIS either lol. [addsig]
