She tended to turn posts off topic in a non-typical-snarkpit kinda way, which got a bit annoying, but she seemed harmless enough. I had nothing against her personally. [addsig]

How about a discussion on why female mappers are so rare? A few obvious possible reasons:

  • Women don't see the point of gaming.
  • Women don't get thrills out of violence.
  • Women don't get off on their hardware (big computer = big dick).
  • In social interaction, women are much better at reading body language and facial expression. Online communities feel less "real" to women than men because the lack of these signals is more noticeable to women.

All generalisations of course, and perhaps false as well.

Because female geeks channel their energies into 'real' work, unlike us males?

Wrong. I got this one girl on my class that played GTA3. Found out this in class bar-night before xmas. Then she borrowed my GTA:VC .. and got totally addicted for few months

oh yeah.. she loves violence.. she told she was laughing at movie theater when she first time saw Kill Bill - Volume 1 [addsig]

A girl mapper... heh... if there was one in the SnarkPIt, I bet we'ed all make passes at her

You're wrong about girls don't like violence My mom was a hardcore DOOM player and QUAKE player at one point. Then she lost interest in Quake, sadly

The first time my sister popped somebody with the crossbow she giggled with mad glee, but her enjoyment of the spurting blood seems to have disturbed her because she won't play HLDM anymore.

Just because you came back from the dead, that doesn't mean you have to resurrect a bunch of threads too Hullu.

There were aa couple female mappers at the old RUST forums. DangerGal and Sara, and maybe one more. Leperous and Dietz probably would remember them.

Yeah my girlfriend has some interesting opinions on the violence in games, she doesn't like it if I shank (bayonet) someone in DoD, but then I try to stop and it's "What're you doing? Keep going!" She comments on my maps and looks at them once in a while, but I have enough fun teaching her photoshop stuff. Maybe if her computer was good enough she'd have a run at HL or some mapping, but that'll be the day when I get my other computer and have all these in a LAN. [addsig]

So true - in my experience, men have a huge capacity to judge the 'tone' of a written sentence by what is said, the style of writing, and the timing. Women often don't get the same reaction out of the same thing.

I have to pull the old "I'm male. I will not understand you, no matter how smart I am, I cannot read all your emotions." sometimes and explain to my lady that if she wants to be fully understood she'll have to be pretty blatant with me. But if it's written I know what's going on.

I only really remember Navyfighter, the 'man' was a font of all HL knowledge it seemed.
