1. Make texture in photoshop.
2. Download photoshop vtf plugin and save texture as a vtf with the template "compressed texture" or "compressed texture with alpha channel" for textures with an alpha channel.
3. Create vmt for the texture, here is a basic vmt for a bsp texture:

"LightmappedGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "Metal/cy_metal01"
"$surfaceprop" "metal"
}

- Change "LightmappedGeneric" to "VertexLitGeneric" for model textures.
- Add "$bumpmap" "concrete/cy_concrete_03_normal" for normal maps.
- Add "$decal" "1" and "$decalscale" "1" for decals/overlays.

The last version of my entry:
-added a fling eagle in the sky
-made some tweaks
-replaced the solid based lights in the new area with models

Well, I know I've always advocated shorter competition times, but now, embarrassingly, I'm running out of time. smiley I might release it after the competition ends, though.

Kudos to those who enter. Good stuff.

How much more time do you need? smiley

Alright, how about one more week? If the people who entered in time don't mind. You could still use the extra time for additional polishing?

I won't be able to finish my entry by the deadline either but I'm still going to submit it. Not that I mind if the competition is extended but can't you submit yours unfinished too?

You may submit whatever you can. I would submit something over nothing, especially if you've put a lot of work into it.

I don't think anyone will be complaining.
  • Competition will be extended one more week (until Sunday October 11)

OP and front page updated...

Keep at it! smiley

Nice! But man, such a tease smiley I wanna see the Vista! -no, wait until it's released; it'll be much more exciting then.

It looks really nice; if anything, I think you could afford to increase the lightmaps for the incoming light from the windows. -And I sure hope it has sounds!

Looking badass! -I wonder what the ancient aspect will be? -I wait in anticipation! smiley

Can't say i didn't see this coming. smiley
Good thing though. Im still trying to delete enough displacements so my map will compile. and i still have to work on lighting sound and even add more terrain.

I don't see any entry updates.Are you all going to hide your work until it's finished?

With traveling last long weekend here and a mountain of job-work I'm still only at 75%. I'm just not cut out for deadlines with this stuff. But just like the last contest I don't care about disqualification really. Hope to have something soon...

Well, It's been well-past the due date for the entries, and the only one I received was aaron's map. So that makes two entries. I talked with RedWood, and he apparently has a map on the way but I didn't see it in my e-mail yet. This is why I haven't started a voting thread yet. If it turns out to be only these two maps, then I won't bother with a voting thread. and we can critique them in this thread and/or wait for the authors to make map profiles for them.

-And that's the update.
