Ok, so a while ago me and riven where talking and i noticed my name was green in the chat, so i decided to check my profile and APPARENTLY *I* was playing ut3, so i log out, change my password, and then log back in, that kicked whoever was using my account out, and this time i made my password even more secure, maybe too secure, I've been using auto login for the new password and guess what, i forgot my password one day.

So, all you have to do is click "forgot password", check your email, enter the code, and reset it, simple right?

Not.

So now valve just wants your money and to screw you over so you end up with no cash and they get all of it, but that doesn't mean they actually want to give you any kind of support if you lose your password, or get your account hijacked right?

So, i get the email, i put the verification code in, but what is this?

Quote
Please also enter the *answer* to the following question into the 'Secret Answer' field of the same dialog:

What did customer support last reset your passphrase to?

God damn, they changed my fucking secret question!?

Are you fucking kidding me?

Is valve THAT ignorant?

This just proves that valve is only out for your money, if you lose your password, too bad, they want you to ENTER your god damn password, TO RESET A FORGOTTEN ONE!

And i can't just 'guess' my current password because APPARENTLY there are problems connecting to the steam servers to log in.

So tell me, what is it that compells everybody to use this POS program?

Why must everybody talk about it like it's a godly program, yet in reality they are simply bending over and letting valve royally fuck them over several times, not caring in the least?

I'm with you. Except for the Gabe part. I wish him a long and fulfilled life, may his cholesterol not kill him anytime soon.

My account got hijacked as well a few months ago. I have to admit, Steam support worked very well then. I have written my new pw on a piece of paper I keep in my HL2 DVD case. Not because I'm so smart, but because I was in a similar situation like you and so predicted my eventual fail to remember my own damn password.

There are dozens of other little details that make Steam a worrisome development:

- What if Steam central ever gets hijacked/malfunctions? Millions of customers wouldn't be able to play their games suddenly.
- In countries with excessive censorship (Germany, Australia) Steam allows total control over what a customer can play by filtering the IP address information (like from which country you log in). If the rating agencies ever find out about these wonders, you simply won't be able to play certain games anymore (legally, that is) or get mandatory censorship that cannot possibly be circumvented.
- By having all your games locked to a specific account, if that account is gone, you can potentially loose dozens of games at once, worth hundreds of dollars.
- Say bye bye to used game sales.

So yea, I'll rage with you...

And that is why I like a hard copy, DVD, CD copy of every game I own. Digital Downloads are ok, but they need to send you a CD back up. smiley

I guess the gabe thing was a bit far off, so i removed it.

Anyways, I'm currently trying to get ahold of steam on getting my password reset.

Ok, i just sent a ticket to steam under the catagory "hijacked account", as that's probably what it fit's best under, I'll tell you guys if\when they respond.

All right, all right, maybe i overreacted a little, i sent them the ticket and a day later they reset my password and secret question, so i'm happy now.

My turn.

As of the last week or so every time I open steam I've had to wait 30-60 minutes for it to update and this is extremely frustrating! I'm quite sure this is some sort of glitch. I don't know what is causing this to happen but to make things worse, sometimes steam will stop responding and close or simply cease updating both of which result in me having to restart the update again and gamble that there is a 25% chance it's just going to mess up again.

Also, I've been having so much trouble getting my soundscape to work for my competition entry. I had no problems at all getting a soundscape to work in my mod or my hl2dm maps but in Half-Life 2 it's apparently different.. how retarted. After I finally got it working after two days of trying different things, I embed the soundscape into my bsp and now it's decided not to work again, I give up. smiley

This is one thing I don't like about Source. Stupid shit like this, minor bugs and glitches and poorly polished ass, like having to invert your alpha channel embedded in the base texture when using it to define reflections because there is a stupid bug, or with the model browser when it says a model is "physics AND static" it's actually not, it's just physics and when a model is "static AND dynamic" it's just static and the amount of effort it takes to get a simple model into the source engine and the amount of flicking between folders when doing shit.

Just playing.. But I hear ya. I had the same issue with my sound too. Updates have been fine. Windows 7 seems to be treating me OK.

I deleted everything in 'c:/program files/steam' except steam.exe and the steamapps folder and it seems to have fixed the problem, I shouldn't have to do that though.

Normally you should just have to delete ClientRegistry.blob if you have issues like this. It will re-detect all your local files and find an alternate content server if your current one is very slow.
