Don't know if you have seen this but there is a new version of Steam coming out soon and when it does it will update HL and convert it to using steam so there will be no WONid's any more in stead they will be Steamid's where one id will cover all the games valve have made (or stole) like FL, OP4, CS, DOD so in stead of many cdkeys you will only need one for the whole lot (or some crap like that) but I realy don't like the idea of that cos I realy don't like Steam.

anyway heres the like to the steam forum thred

Steam Sys requirements

Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP
500 MB HD space
256 MB RAM
1.0 Ghz processor
1GB HD space (strongly recommended)

this has royaly f**ked me before I even start cos I have 128MB RAM and a 450MHz processor and there aint a chance in hell I will be getting a new PC anytime between now and when I win the lottery that I dont even p[ay and 1GB HD space this is a load of s**t cos it downloaded 3GB of usless crap that I couldn't use even CS1.6 that took up about a gig and it then told me that I couldn't use it cos it hadn't got all the f**king files .

I realy liked valve and now they seem to be trying to f**k me up the arse but then its all for the good of the company.

so I say DAMB VALVE AND THERE USELESS s**t.

[edit]
and the thing that really pisses me off is that I would have to get a new PC to play a game that is about a year older than my current one

and you need that to beable to play a game of chess with some one through steam aswell but lots of people on the staeam forums just don't realise that 1GHz is just a f**king insanely high requirement to play a game of chess never mind a game that only requires a 166+ to play with out this crappy srog called steam.

They just say well you should upgrade cos 1GHz processors have been out since 2000.

[edit]
Oh and DoD retail only needs a 500Mhz and that uses steam but thats still bloody high to say that the mod version only needs what hl needs

Gah, this thing is sounding like my school's "Rensselaer Plan". Basically, all policies by administration are part of the "Rensselaer Plan" and involve things like building fancy buildings for hi tech stuff, not building buildings they said they would build for EMAC department, general tuition hikes for undergrads, huge tuition hikes for grads and elimination of part time grad student prices.  What is it for? All chasing some weird ideal that's entirely too damn corporate, especially for a university. A veritable s**tload of freshmen were admitted for this year, and one dorm has become almost entirely makeshift triples for rooms instead of doubles simply because the administration felt they needed the money.

I guess this is kinda hitting a tangent here, the intent of this post isn't to exposes RPI President Shirley Ann Jackson for the ignoramus that she is, but to provide another example of where some people are just so certain that they created such an incredible new system that they fail to see all the customers/students that they're pissing off.

This cracks me up: http://steampowered.com/index.php?area=faq&id=1050915492,63276400,1050915628,96797200

They're dodging the answer that Valve's only released game is HL and its expansions. Heheheh.

what the f**k, 1ghz?! HL was out like a year before 1ghz processors ffs. you only need maybe a p2 to run it decently, that's what I had until just this spring. this is a big 'fuck you' to the community.

Steam really just screams "security risk" and "spyware" to me. Of course you'll never really know the truth if there's spyware...

And as for the security risk; I already don't like the idea of downloading anything at anytime. If these content servers ever get corrupted or hacked, what's to stop some hacker or something from installing hundred's of worms? Best of all, I won't even have control over what happens. Woohoo.

But, obviously, if Steam works out, the benefits will be pretty substantial to Valve. I guess they're ready to take that risk.

Death to steam!

this all smacks of being in control of data and money, this sucks. thanks valve, thanks a lot - nice way to pay back the community after they made half-life into the TRUE global phenomenon it became, with CS, DoD, AHL etc...

This is complete crap, really it is.  I don't like this at all.  I have more than enough to run Steam(ing pile of dog s**t).  Having to run it in the background is total crap.  Also they're leaving a huge lot of the community in the dust by requiring a BB connection.

They're trying to be Battle.net but are completely f**king it up, royally.

Pretty stiff requirements i'll say.  This whole thing with steam has really put quite a few people off.  I'll go along for the ride as I really want to play this game in MP. [addsig]

Hmm, seems I'm gonna either have to get the X-Box port of HL2 or wait for the PS3 or N5 ports a few years down the road to have a Steam-free HL experience.

let's see them deliver on HL2 and some basic Deathmatch, then we'll see about TF2. of course, considering how they changed TFC, I don't think I would like the direction they'd take it anyway..
