It occured to me today, while browsing the CS maps section, that everything that HLDM mapping has become is nothing compared to CS. At least most HLDM servers don't put up with a lot of those crap maps. [addsig]

I think that the legend of cs will live on even after the release of hl 2 this summer (if they dont delay it again, of course ). [addsig]

The legend of CS huh? You mean the assholes, hackers, and just plain retarded people. Like the guy who plays CS when hes drunk. Yeah, we all though that was cool when we were what, 8? Just because you took a sip of miller-lite doesnt mean your some big-s**t. [addsig]

That's not the legend of CS, that's the reality of today's youth. This War on Terror needs to escalate into a real global war to thin their ranks out a little.

So..We should threaten our youthfull Counter-Strike players with real-life death experiances yak?

I like it.

Or you could just let us play our games which we think are fun, and stop having a steriotypical view that every one who plays CS is a "1337 h4X0r"

In general I think there are proportionately WAY the hell too many stupid people. Sadly, some of them figure out how to use a mouse and keyboard. [addsig]

When people start bashing CS, a nice dose of Anti-CS always cheers me up

Join the Anti-CS Movement

By the way, I'm kidding, CS is fun sometimes, like on LANs. But all mods have that really. Some morron who thinks it's funny to team kill every five seconds...
I've played on dod servers where the entire team was drunk, because they were hosting a server over their network at some party. People do some pretty stupid stuff to be honest.

I think the individuals in the darwin awards give us all a little self-reasurance that at least some of these individuals wont reproduce. [addsig]

I was being sarcastic, and wether we like it or not, 75 % of so-called "gamers" eat cs untill they die. A guy in my country...a 13 year old, me thinks, ran away from home and was found half-dead in an i-cafe after playing cs for about 3 days non-stop.Ok, ok, so i play 1 or 2 hours every week when im not mapping, but, DAMN, THESE PEOPLE ARE F*CKING MANIACS!!!You go into an i-cafe, and everybody plays counter-strike...sad.Nobody wants to play C&C Generals with me......or even some MOHAA...

Speaking of which, according to Amazon.co.uk, CS:Condition Zero is released today. I've ordered it, and it looks quite reasonable. I think (note the stress on "think") it uses the same "Geo-mod" technology Red Faction used - you know, if you can't get through a door make your own by making a nice large hole in the wall... Nope, didn't hear that one. I don't think the Geo-Mod technology can really jump from one modern engine to another outdated engine so easily. Maybe they just made a few doors or walls func_breakables or something. [addsig]

I don't think the CS:CZ engine is really all that new, aside from some AI tweaks and map types, I thought it was pretty much the standard HL engine. I could be wrong though.

It's more or less the HL engine with a few fancy bits and bobs tacked on for good measure.

It has detail textures I believe, though I can't imagine them enhancing it much...

Geomod really isn't that special.

The feature of detail textures is already availible on Steam maps for those whose cards can take it; myself, I always thought detail texturing (along with bump mapping, dynamic lighting, and all that new s**t) were pretty bad, until I saw them executed well - some CS jungle map used them for grass - and they can be an amazing effect.
