I've known this game for a while already, but now that I'm going for a second playthrough, I thought I should share it with the pit.
In short, Shadow of the Colossus is a PS2 (Or, like I have, on the PS3 as a HD Remake) game, like no other. Basically the game has bosses only, and no regular enemies. Most of them are huge in size, and you have to climb on them and find their weak spots to defeat them.
Here's an example boss:
Has anyone else around here heard of the game? I believe it's originally from 2004.

I've wanted this game since Crono linked me another boss fight a while ago but I only have a PS2 and they're kind of expensive for it, I'll definitely be getting it on PS3 when I get one. It looks amazing

It's not that much on PS2. But yeah the PS3 update looks amazing. All the problems with the PS2 renders are gone. Ico doesn't look that much improved, though. But at least now it has all the cut stuff!
It's only $8-$20 used on PS2. ... If you're in the US.
There's a lot of amazing console games I'd love to discuss on here ... but most members seem offended by console games, in general. Makes me sad
Why can't I have a gaming community where people like all games except Microsoft's ... in a perfect world.

In the US.... I wish I lived in the US :P
On the subject of Microsoft, has anyone tried Microsoft Flight yet? Its free-to-play and I've downloaded it but haven't had time to check it out.
And yeah, sucks if people actually get offended by console games, I didn't realise that was even possible...

Well the opposite happens as well. If you go into a console centric community, a lot of times there will be people who irrationally hate computer gaming. Even if they've never actually tried it.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Ya, I knew this to be a game that I would play. I like action/adventure titles, but I never owned a PS2, so my impressions of the game were limited to the gameplay videos and kisoks.
@ Crono: There shouldn't be anything inhibiting you from talking about console games here. Games are games, no? If someone is offended by it, isn't that their problem? Besides, this is General Banter... Talk about whatever, go crazy!
Well, coherent discussions ARE preferable though

Yea it really is a shame if you can't play it. Ok there are better games out there but IMO this is still a recommended one
and Crono, I didn't expect this topic to get many, if any, replies at all, but so what, you never know, and apparently most of you actually know it or want to play it

It just depends on taste. Personally, I think action-adventure is the best overall genre ... ever, regardless of medium.
There's certainly standouts in any genre, but the ones with the best consistency the ones that are most beloved by many, are usually action-adventure.
And, Shadow of the Colossus is a unique action-adventure game at that.
Better games? Sure, that's actually entire subjective, though. I don't think there's any one master game that trumps all ... I also don't think there's any single movie that is the best ever. I think, instead, there's a set of games that set the trends, in the better ways (i.e. Not Call of Duty), that are sort of the pillars of the medium. I would argue Shadow of the Colossus is one of them. (it's a big set)
The only reason I don't discuss console games more here is because there's almost never any response or interest. I would love to chat consoles with people that put everything on a level playing field. That doesn't normally happen on the internet.

There's a lot of amazing console games I'd love to discuss on here ... but most members seem offended by console games, in general.
*shakes head* Sadly, nothing could be further from the truth. At least with regards to the membership roster here at Snarkpit.
I have been here virtually since day one and we have had countless topics/discussions over the PC/Console thing and the general majority consensus is that there is nothing wrong with them.
Even those of us who dislike them, have nothing against the machines themselves. Its the mindset that made them so popular that is disliked. The idea that simple people want simple machines to give them simple games is pretty much all anyone ever disagrees with. The arguments that have happened in the past seem to center on this part of the discussion. Very few people want to admit that they are simple. Almost never has there been a disagreement over the games themselves. A very few debates have been over the visual parts. PC's have always been better looking.
The fact that some of the games are complex has no relevance on the topic. At least when arguments occur.
The fact that some people with average or above average intelligence also has no relevance because neither are in the majority and neither were a driving force behind their popularity.(with regards to the total people playing the machines worldwide) The fact remains that consoles gained popularity because they are easier to use than maintaining a computer to play games upon.
What seems to be of secondary importance (and a close second I might add) is the impact on the market/releasing of PC's vs. Consoles.
It is an extreme and undeniable fact that console games out number pc games by a large percentage. Nobody can fault the gaming industry for following the money trail. None of us here would deny that the gaming industry has the right to produce games where they are most likely to be a monetary gain.
So, with regards to your comment.. There has never been a prohibition on discussing console games. If someone has a dislike for them, they have just as much right to voice their viewpoint as anyone else.
It has always been my view that the "pro" console people are much more close minded about the topic than the "con" people are. Very few of them are willing to admit why consoles became so popular. It doesn't really portray them in a good light so they usually start arguments over them.
Anywho.. As I said, the vast majority of Snarkpit members have no problem with consoles.
What I have always hoped for is that some day consoles would become so complicated to use that either the simple people will stop playing them and the market will shift back to PC's or that the consoles being complicated there will be no significant difference between them and PC's and the market will shift back. One can only wish. *shrugs*
