As of yesterday I got myself a Samsung Galaxy Ace (I didn't have a smartphone before yet)

Are there any recommended apps I should know of?

Oh, ya this is something else than what I stated earlier, I didn't know this app showed you where the planets are "live"

I was thinking about the one that Google Earth had, where you could zoom in anywhere and see a picture of a planet very detailed.

Either one are cool though

Are you talking about Google Sky Map? It works pretty well that's the one I use. Temple Run is a pretty cool game and it's free.

Sky Map is damn useful when trying to look at planets and your piece of shit gyroscope actually cooperates and doesn't switch poles on you.

Yeah, I wanted to try out Google Sky Map yesterday by finding a star and learning which star it was in the app, but it was too cloudy and I couldn't see any star at all.. smiley

I've tried to look for Temple Run, but when I noticed it is not in the app store, I looked it up on google and found out that my device is not compatible (yet).

Too bad, looked like a fun game

Edit: Do you guys recommend to update the firmware, even though it is not natively going any higher than this for my phone? I mean, I know there's a new version available, but when I let my phone look for any firmware updates, it says that there is none. Is there a reason why I can only do it manually? Is the new firmware (4.*something*) not supported for my device?

I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say smiley

If you want to do manual updates you have to root the phone and then you'll, personally, be responsible for whatever issues it may have.

Manufacturer's currently aren't handling these updates for devices very well. (As opposed to using a global repository like many linux distributors and really being on top of the ball ... they're actually just focusing on the next model of phones for various updates.)

Anyway, you can root the phone later when updates will likely be very useful.

You might want to download the Amazon App Store, you have to actually go to amazon to get it ... they have a paid application for free every day. I've gotten many things I wouldn't have paid for otherwise (but others would) from there, so check it out.

Other stuff: Get a light app. they're endlessly useful. (Let's you use the LED and screen brightness as flash lights ... they're very bright, so it's very useful)

Thanks for the hints Crono! I'll just leave the firmware as it is though for now.

I'm downloading the Amazon App Store right away.

I could get a flashlight app, which uses the bright light (the flash when you make a picture), or should I get one, like you said? One which uses the screen as a light source. I think the last option is more battery friendly

There's applications that let you choose which one you want to use and even let you change color and junk like that. Check out ... Flashlight HD LED by Smallwhatever. There's a free version, has an occasional ad. It also has a widget for the desktop.

About the Amazon AppStore, when I want to download an app, it says something about that I have to set a Credit Card for my account, but is that really necessary?

And I'll try that Flashlight app. Can always prove useful indeed!

Yes, you have to have a card attached to the amazon account for single click check out to work. It's evil of them ... but it doesn't charge you anything for free applications.

You can also apply the applications through amazon.com too. And this can be used across multiple devices with your amazon account.

Google's playstore online is a good one too ...it'll automatically download on the phone even. (If you tell it to)

Well that's too bad, because my type of Credit Card is not suppored by amazon smiley

Yeah, I automatically had the Google PlayStore on my phone already, and it works just fine

That's because it used to be the Android Market. I think they're expanding it to non-android devices as well.

I ain't talking bad about your phone so don't take it that way.. Why did you get such an old phone? Was it on sale or something?
Maybe where you live its still new?

and

Bragging rights... I got me a new Razor Maxx. I am still learning it. Way to much for my old noggin to get.

That's all right.

Over here it is still quite new, and I didn't want a phone with a subscription. It also includes everything I need.

I could've picked a Galaxy S2 but that would be more than I'd need, especially for the price.

My brother has an S2, and he loves it.
Over here, phone brands are not available from provider to provider. The S2 is not available from Verizon but is for ATT. And I am pretty sure my Razor is not available for ATT.

The S3's will be available soon for Verizon though.

Anywho's, you can get a pretty basic phone with 4g now. your 3g/2g is gonna get old fast.

BUT, if all you need, is what you got, YOU DID GOOD. :P

And it is *Thumbs Up* smiley

Also, Sky Map indicates that the moon is about 1/20 in front of the sun. Does this happen frequently? It's like a mini solar eclipse
