Thanks for sharing! I'm not as excited as I used to be, but I'll definitely get it on its release date.

Yea the torrent worked best for me, as all of the other mirrors are either broken or very slow.
I think it took about 40 minutes to an hour to download. I've played it for a bit now and it's looking great so far!

Yeah so ... this thing is phenomenal. Lots of new types of gameplay. A complete revamp of how HL1 appeared and acted as well as a retroactive filling in of the gaps so HL1 actually fits with HL2.
This really has the potential to replace HL1 as sort of the go-to Half-Life 1 story experience.

Altered to suit my impressions so far! Apologies for the liberty taken, couldn't resist.
And yeah phenomenal is an apt term to use. Along with many other gushing adjectives...

In what would would that make sense? HL3=redo of HL1? You're kidding me... Personally I thought HL2 did a better job of conveying the story experience to the player. BMS does a MUCH better job then HL1 certainly did with regards to the story experience.
Overall the game is A+. My only critique is that they kinda broke the jump mechanic with the addition of sprint - I always considered myself a great jumper in HL1 - this one I keep falling down pits. The release of bms was kinda bad too - The installer didn't add the mod to my steam games list, I had to do some forum diving to find the info I needed to make it appear - maybe steam can be blamed for that, but then again how difficult is it to make sure the current release of steam can load the game from the stand alone installer...

Yeah not being able to jump over railings and junk feels ... odd.

Yeah that was meant as a backhanded swipe at Valve and vaporware in general...
As far as jumping goes, I've missed a few times and some collisions are awkward, but sprint-jump-crouch/strafe works like I expected it to. Railings and junk have not posed problems for me somehow. What is starting to bother me is the clumsy weapon switching, the firefights are so intense I really miss the multiplayer-style 1-key press selection.
The more I encounter the HECUs, the dumber they appear, although still lethal. More than a few times I've been staring at the back of one's head 20 feet away, like they've forgot what they're doing. It's also sadly easy to 'corner-snipe' them, i dunno what all the fuss is about over at the official forum.

Except, Half-Life 3 has never been announced. So, calling it vaporware is a stretch.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I totally know what you mean, it took me a very long time before I was finally able to find a working download as well. I think it was even impossible on its release because of the massive download amount.
Anyway, I think I used a torrent to download black mesa. I believe you can find the torrent on the main site
Edit: There's 2 download links over here, Part 1 and Part 2, and there's also the torrent file: http://www.moddb.com/mods/black-mesa/downloads
