Greetings People,

I have held these in the past, and I am here to do it again. I will post a photo and what you have to do is recreate the structure in a map. You can uses any Valve game, that uses the HalfLife engine, source included. Day of Defeat, DOD Source, Half life, Counterstrike and so on. We give out Snarkpit Trophies in the form of a 3D model to use in your map. We have also in the past given away a game in Steam that is 20 dollars of less. So Want to have fun doing what we do, and win something to boot.. Then Enter this contest. GOOD LUCK!

Starts now, ends Feb 1 2014. Submission must be in by the end of Feb 2014... Winner will be selected by poll here on the pit and announced in March 2014.

Here is an example of the model you'll get, yours will have your name on it.

Oh, another contest! Brings back good memories.

I have a few questions though, the first one is a bit rule-changing though, anyway:

1. Lately I've been mapping for a game called Thief, and that's basically the only game I've been mapping for the last couple months. Is it ok if I were to build the map for that game? The editors are a bit alike (image): http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e3/Dromed.png

If not, don't worry about it, I can always still start up the Source SDK and do it there (which is actually probably the easier way, I'd just have to get used to it again)

2. As much as I like the idea of the golden trophy, I do not really have a use for it as I'm probably not going to map for a source game for a while. Can the prize be discussed? (not trying to sound like an arse)

3. So is the deadline February 1st, or February 28th?

That's it. Nice to see another competition from you. I'll see if I can get something done in my spare time.

I need to be able to load the map and run around in it and check it out. I have a game called thief here some place, I wonder if its the same one. If it is, then sure go for it. I also have unreal tournament and can open the challenge to that game as well.

I know how to convert my Blender model into a source model, if there is a way to make one for Thief we will do that. Or maybe make another type of model, like a flag or banner, or maybe a picture frame with your winning level in the frame.

Deadline is Feb 1 2014. Meaning the map needs to be uploaded to some place, pref. here on the pit, but any place that we can download from will do. Screenshots need to be posted here with a link to your map for download so everyone can check the maps out. I will break any tie should that happen. Only Snarkpit members can vote on their choice.

Ah it's fine, I think I'll be going to make it for either HL2 Ep 2, Left 4 Dead 2 or CS:GO.

Probably Episode 2 though.

Maybe the model can be made for the thief engine indeed (I'm not too experienced with that though), otherwise, a picture frame would be nice as well.

*Tranfers the map files to his new pc to continue his work*

^ I'll upload a screenshot as soon as I got something worth showing

Edit: Shit, I thought the deadline was the 28th of february. I'm probably the only one again uploading something, but do I still have time?

Here is my entry at last:

It's not 100% finished as you can see but this is as far as I got.
Hope you like it & Nice competition, it's a pity that I'm probably going to end up as the only participant again.

Edit: Unfortunately I don't have a link to the map because what you see here is all the map's got to offer. I focused on recreating the image really rather than completing the house alltogether.

That is really nice so far.. if you finish it NIB, I will send you a game on steam at 20 dollars or less, will be from your wishlist.

Since you were the only one to get this far, it made the judging of a winner much easier. smiley

Whoo, awesome! I'll try to finish it ASAP.

It's a pity I'm the only one participating again, but oh well, it was fun to do.

Hey at least someone got involved. Maybe at some point these people on here will want some free stuff too, and jump in and get involved. I am trying to keep this site alive.

Again Great job man. Make sure to have a place in the house to add the snark trophy too. I will get right on that too so before your last compile you can add it in. What game did you map this in? Generic Half Life?

It's a very generous way in keeping this site alive in my opinion.

About the map, I wasn't planning on making it a playable map, this time I focused more on only re-creating the photo. If you get to the right side of the house, there aren't any brushes on that side.
The map is made in CS:GO, I wanted to make it for HL2 Episode 2, but that editor wouldn't work for me.

However I am planning to make a new CS:GO map in the coming months. I could place the trophy in that map? smiley

Nice one Nib.

Thanks man!

Hey Nib! I know we've talked before about your entry off-site, but I gotta make it known: I did like the concept for this competition, and what you were able to create Nib, that nailed the atmosphere definitely. Obviously it doesn't look as detailed as the inspiration image, but the essential elements are there and it gets the point across very well with a smart selection of 'essential' elements in the image. Almost a minimalist approach.

The other thing about this competition and G4mer's support for the site is definitely impressive. I confess I didn't make a front page post when I should have (e.g. When G4mer asked me to!), and G4mer never chewed me out about it, but I'm sorry I didn't make an effort to do that and waited and waited to never make it happen, and made me feel fairly guilty about the whole thing, so I'm reluctant to post in this thread out of respect for G4mer.

Next time G4mer, ask about it before, and we'll talk site permissions for you, so you can make a front page post yourself! - If I can't schedule it myself.

In any case, this was an honest competition with an honest entry. I'll be following the thread to see what progress you make Nib, if you decide to continue to 'finish' this map.

Thanks for both of you helping to keep this site alive. smiley

My pleasure Riven. We will do another one soon.

Yeah NIB, I will get that trophy ready for your new map.. how can I send it to you?

I would love to see this house in a playable map, even if it is on some hill and no access is granted to it. Very well done man. Again congrats on your win. I hope someone next time gives you a run for your money. smiley lol

Okay NIB, I have the trophy ready. Just let me know how to send it to you. Here is what it looks like.

NIB, I also sent you one game on Steam under your wish list. I hope you enjoy the Game. CONGRATS again on your win. Thank you for contributing to Gamer's Mapping Challenge. A new one will be coming soon. smiley smiley
