Hey there! Glad to see old members pop in!
The forums are pretty quiet, and every so often we'll see some maps posted and some good threads started. But yes, the site is pretty quiet I have to say. I suppose the free maps hosting and repository of good tutorials keep it relevant.
AFAIK, Orph is still around, he lurks from time to time on the site, but that was a little while ago (5 months?) since I've last talked with him.
How has life been for you?

Yo!
Yes I too have been lurking in the shadows once in a while. Time is very short these days so a lot of my idea maps have just turned to proverbial dust. Glad this place is still powered up though, since that'll give me a testbed if I ever get the time to fill out an idea enough to call it a beta.

I've seen Orph hanging around on Facebook a lot these days... maybe he needs to get his priorities in check.

Hello everyone! I have been so busy with classes, field experiences, and an internship I forgot about my good buddy the Snarkpit. So, I thought I would say "hi" again too. Also, I have resumed work on one of my mods entitled "Depraved." Progress is going slowly of course now, but hopefully I will actually finish it at some point! Hope everything has been going well with all of you!

Holy crap I remember Nickelplate! Man, those days of being a teenager with a crappy laptop churning out maps in a darkened bedroom
Man I miss those days! Good old mid 2000s. I wish I had more memories from those days though, things like friends, etc.
Anyway back to Snarkpit related things I actually felt the craving to start mapping late last year again, started a map, did quite a lot of work on it then lost interest for a few months and opened it up yesterday and did some work on it. Release date? Probably never although I still have the hunger once in a blue moon to map.
I remember a time back when Dark|Killer, Kickelplate and aaron_da_killer (Le chief) were all newbies and I was like "Aw, they're new, they aren't in with the cool kids". But now I look at their registration dates they have been here nearly as long as me
But I did have another account that got nuked by an admin for flaming said admin
Anyway, have fun everyone, nice to see ya'll

Man, what have all you guys been up to? It would be cool to get back into mapping, but it's so easy to get wrapped up in life stuff and work. If I made time to do a map, it'd have to be something pretty small if I was planning to actually finish it. My free time has been given to doing environment art instead, since it ties into more of what I do for work.

Hello... also checking in! Haven't been here for years...
Mapping for HL was one of the main reasons I got into architecture. I got my Master's degree this summer after 5 years of Uni - thanks for the great community guys! I miss mapping...
@Riven: nice portfolio!

Good to see some of the older members posting here and good to hear everybody is doing well
I quit my job at the start of this year at the startup game studio I was working at for almost 3 years and decided to go to uni and get a computer science degree!
I'm hoping to get a broader computer science background because at the moment most of my knowledge/experience is games related (I finally worked out how to make a "guestbook" for my website Crono).
Maybe once Half-Life 3 comes out we'll see an influx of activity...

That's cool, man. (I thought that was worked out a long time ago?)
I hope your path works out and you enjoy it.
Maybe you and I should chat in the future about some things.

Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

I really hope Chief's right and HL3 will come around eventually giving the mapping communities some content to work on again. Sometimes I think they might have too much pressure on this project as everyone is basically expecting it to be the best game of the century should it be released. Valve is very smart in their choices and brought us incredible games beyond HL2 - but the HL-series are their defining products and they're expected to be ground breaking. Be it VR or whatever this time. I think Gabe mentioned on reddit the other day that they are working on the Source 2 engine which apparently will be very easy to create custom content for - I could be wrong though... but this would definitely boost the activity on mapping sites again...

Yeah, from everything I've heard Valve's in game lack of news is because they're doing the boring work of working on a new engine. Which is nice and all, Source is looking dated, but... unresolved plotines D:
Also, hey y'all

Hey, hope you guys are well!
It's been a while... I've been busy myself,
I finished a PhD in physics last year, I'm
working as a PostDoc atm, I guess all that
time playing half life rubbed off
It would be cool to do some more mapping, I
really enjoyed being a part of this community
back in the day.
matt.

Hi everyone. Good to see so many familiar usernames after so many years!
I'm trying to get a PhD in applied mathematics, though it's taking a really long time. Over many years math and physics have grown to become what I really love, which is strange because I can remember a time growing up when I didn't like it (or, rather I didn't like the classes that were called "math").
Anyways, hope everything is well with you all.
