it kicks ass. the Onslaught mode stuff has the same addictive quality TFC had for me, except with more action and lots of crazy vehicles. in some ways it's even more team oriented than other games, despite being faster, because you need to help teammates by linking to make/heal nodes faster, giving people rides, etc. And the voice chat is excellent, very well integrated.

you can do other neat stuff... I have been putting a bunch of sticky grenades on the front of the jeep, then ramming it into tanks or power nodes and setting them off for some major damage (you can dive out at the last second of course). ramping vehicles is fun, too, I spent about an hour on one map just doing stunts.

The Leviathan is just... amazing... it's bigger than 4 or 5 tanks, and transforms into a huge ion cannon. you can hear it charging and firing far in the distance, it's scary as hell. and in normal vehicle mode 5 people can ride in it; one driver manning the main rocket batteries, and 4 others manning the turrets. it is quite literally a mobile fortress.

neat effect I noticed on that map in the pic, too... there are shadows from the clouds that you can see moving across the ground. really nice.

UT2k3 and UT2k4 do look good and play good. But I feel they should be called something else. They lost that Unreal Tournament feel that UT had.

Despite having... everything else that the UT series had, including continuations of map series, characters, and the original arsenal?

I was very pleased. I snagged UT2K4 DVD SE, with the game on DVD, the extra bonus DVD of all that editing material (that I of course can't do anything with what with the Raven job ) and the headset for 29.99 PLUS the 10 mail-in rebate for ut2k3 owners.

My current job at Gamestop may rule, but not even my discount could beat that. [addsig]

Where did ya get that deal, KFS?

I've been wanting to get this game, but I hate paying 50 bucks for it (and I don't like pirating, so don't "link me" anyone, plzkthx). [addsig]

Oh, right. None other than Best Buy. Snagged the last SE copy at the store (my friend got one when there were 4 left - I left the house a day earlier than doctor's orders technically allowed to get in on that deal! hehe). I imagine it'll come back on shelves at full price, but if not that'd be pretty snazzy. [addsig]

To be honest, it's pretty okay - WC is right though, the original UT's gameplay was a masterpiece; UT2k3 and 2k4 completely fail to replicate that gameplay, and end up with something much worse, which says to me that they just got lucky in creating something so fun.

Graphically, it is nothing special in terms of sheer skill of craftstmanship, save for some absolutely jaw-dropping skies. Most of the maps are just empty expanses or uglier small arenas; the texture work only proves that the resolution of a texture is not proportional to how good it is. The detail texturing is horrendous - hugely repetitive and looks terrible up close.

I don't really like the look of it to be honest. TFC addictiveness sounds good though. [addsig]

I agree ... but I think I'll stick to TFC ... never liked UT In the first place.

Cassius: I agree, many of the Onslaught maps aren't particularly great or creative overall. but the gameplay is quite good and fun for the most part. also, I'm glad to see some so-so maps this time out since it's less intimidating lol. there's already an Onslaught mapping contest being run someplace, I expect there will be a ton of community maps for the mode.

regular price on UT2k4 should only be $40. plus it comes with a rebate for $10 if you had UT2k3 (just need the cover of the ut2k3 manual for it, not the oooollldd receipt, which is nice).

I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but the new UT games don't seem all that different to the original UT to me. Even graphics wise, the 'look' of the game seems the same.

I like UT2k4 a lot more than UT2k3 judging by the demo. Especially the onslaught and assault modes... It hasn't released yet over here (I think). But I'm not sure I'm going to buy it unless I get that bonus disc. ANd if it does make it here, it'll be a first. :/

Bah, play.com have received 10,000 copies of the DVD edition less than what they ordered. So currently, I have yet to receive my copy. I refuse to get it anywhere else though; 17.99 and free delivery cannot be beaten. [addsig]

I pre-ordered the special edition at Gamestop but it had two bonus discs instead of a bonus disc and an install disc. They're supposed to get a new one for me next week.

I've got my raincheck from Best Buy for the Special Edition so I'll get it for $30 instead of the standard $60 for it when they get their next shipment in.

Personally I feel 2k3 and 2k4 surpassed UT, the original was more fun SP than MP, but the sequels were a lot more fun in both categories. Still, none pass AHL nor Enemy Territory, and I'm getting 2k4 for AUT and to learn more about how to make stuff with the engine.

I like onslaught mode also, but the only problem is is when the opposing team corners you, then there really is no hope of winning that round, i mean its next to impossible (unless your a UT god) to make a comeback.

But everything has been improved, better weapons (smaller so it seems like there is higher res) and gameplay, I dont know what it is its just refined (like op4 was to HL), And I do know what WC is talking about, 2003-2004 misses that classic look and feel.

I won't bother with the full game until I have a comp that can run the demo decently.

6, I believe. I recall seeing directories for all 6 on the DVD when I browsed around a bit. [addsig]
