This is a nice article I saw on the VERC about some guys level design history. It's an interesting read and snarkpit gets a mention. Scroll down to the "Turdbox" heading. Made me smile anyway.

Well, it's time to steal Vash's quote again: Welcome to snarkpit, we'll eat your legs.

Meh, not my best but still deserved a slapping!:

Before we get started on the map itself, let us start by analysing the name. Apparently, the same brain cell of the author that figured out where the 'compile' button was in Worldcraft managed to give this map an apt title- Turdbox. It is both 'turd' (don't want to teach the kiddies rude words now, do we) and a 'box' (as in the bad killbox variety). It is all that I could have imagined it to be before I even looked at the map and more: it comes with a giant, 20 metres tall porta-loo in the middle. And a blue sofa. This map has gone into my "top 10 most horrendous things ever rendered by the Half-Life engine" list. It's simply a huge box, with a bunch of massively scaled up objects thrown in (why?). One wall is covered with a backwards-reading map of the Black Mesa facility (why??), the other with a giant TV picture of some newspaper thingy that keeps waving at me (why???). The only thing it's got going for it is that there's some kind of lighting in the map, and it's been VISed too. Although I can't see why the author, whoever he/she/it bothered to be honest, what a waste of electricity. Weapon placement is reasonable in that there's no instances where, for example, 10 egons have been placed next to each other or some other similar, mindless idea. Just look at the screenshots- someone has wasted weeks learning Worldcraft in order to make this huge, steaming heap of turd of a map. Assuming this isn't someone's sick joke... |
