I am looking into possibly getting an acrylic case for my computer. Half because it looks cool, and half because I have to assemble it, and half because I get to disassemble and then reassemble my computer *couch*lame!*couch*

Here's the link:
http://www.pccyber.ca/scrItem.asp?product_subtypes_id=165&product_types_id=5&product_id=1373

What I would like to know, they give you gloves so you dont put a fingerprint while assembling it, but what about scratches? Both when putting components inside and from things outside. Is it easy to scratch or damage these cases? I know they are for show, but I would also like to take my computer to LAN parties and such, and wondering if the case would survive.

Thanks

i think EVERYONE should have a see thru case, it allows the dust balls and fiber mites a better view or the outside

why anyone would want to see electronic parts, as the suck the dust and fur out of the air i'll never know

and for someone whom has so little money for an upgrade, you sure you wanna waste it on a case?

90 dollars for a box to hold all your pc bits is a bit silly. Couldn't you just use the 90 dollars on something more worthwile? Get it if it'll make you happy though it does look very sweet. [addsig]

90 Canadian dollars dosent get you much... another stick of 256mb DDR ram. Maybe 512. But I already have 512.

And I would like to get a new case someday as my current one has the PSU sitting besides the motherboard, not on top, therefore the CPU cooler has about 1 finger's width of space before touching the PSU.

And the offer is for a case or a PSU, I decided to go for a case.

Steer well clear - these acrylic cases are awkward to take off/put on, lose the novelty after a few days.

Also, when it comes to getting peripherals in, the space inside is more comparable to a shoebox than a PC case. Waste of money IMO, and like Orph says - if someone else is paying, it's what you need, not what you want Wallets are personal things [addsig]

These acrylic cases are rather boring, I've seen tons and they're all the same, crap. It doesn't matter what kind of hardware you've got inside, watercooling, it still just doesnt give of a great effect.

I just bought a new computer chassis 2 weeks ago for about 75 euro (the Chieftec Matrix MX). Here's a picture of it:

It's a great case, supurb design and it has definent casemodding potential (which acrylic cases for the most part lack), even though it's a steel tower.

The all-clear cases always look ok in pictures, but after it's had a few sets of dirty fingers on it, and is half full of dust, it will look like ass. If you want a 'cool' case, get a black one or something.

Also, acrylic doesn't exactly provide the same kind of earthing/EM shielding that aluminium/steel does.

My case wasn't the cheapest out there, but a well-ventilated lightweight aluminum case seems worth much more than an acrylic. [addsig]

So I guess acrylic isnt all that great then? lol.

Well, I'll look at what else they have interesting. And on what other cases the offer is good on, I dont think they'll give him the discount on the Xaser III... Such a nice case. With such a heavy price tag.. 200$

I don't think having a case with random letters on it would appeal to me...

I love my case ... Steel, Black, no crappy ass windows on the sides. (However, since it is not a light metal the thing is heavy ... 25lbs without the computer parts inside). I've had it for like 6 years ... it's great, and I wouldn't get rid of it for anything ... However, I might drill some holes in the front for USB ports [addsig]

don't get discouraged WC, the idea you had, has merit, but i think you were leaning toward a fad case, instead of a traditional one.. there are some interesting and exciting cases that do not involve transparency, and i do so want some of those lights and cool fans for my future pc..

this is utilitarian, but a very sweet case.

this although it does have a see-through side, is my choice above all at the moment.. i want one badly, or one similar.

I honestly can't understand why someone would want their computer to look like that ... it doesn't make sense unless it's art work in your house or something.

I knew people who wanted huge windows in their computers with cathode lights which they would then later place in a corner, hidden by their desk.

I fear that the trend to over-do your car is phasing into computers. And the worst looking one wins. (Same thing happens when people lower their pickup trucks and put spoilers on them .... disgusting).

Again, I'm not picking on you, but these cases are rediculous. Get one that holds everything in your computer, which is also durable and you should be good. Unless you're trying to make up for something, you should need to overdo your computer case just so it 'looks cool'. [addsig]

crono, i live in arkansas, competition of PC's is nearly unheard of.. now if we were discussing a prize bull

still, my PC is my only vice, i would, if given the chance, spend myself broke on them..

if i want spiffy, i buy spiffy, i already own basic.

i have a nice blue and beige 400 watt mini-tower, i have no complaints about its uses, i want spiffy next..

i am 42, is that to much to want? i worked for it, i think its harmless enuff to have.

No, I just think that there are more important things then blowing your money on a computer past performance. Because, the real goal of all this is to make computers UN-noticable. They should blend into the room and seem like they belong (to me anyway). These monstrosities that are being called cases are eye sores.

Its painfully obvious when you see some guy blow all his money on his car (past performance and a decent look) and it's the same way with a computer. I doubt that in five years or so, if you had made your computer 'spiffy' that you'd look back and say "wow, am I glad I did that" ... more or less I'm sure you'd regret it, why? because it serves no purpose and will go out of style in a short amount of time.

The same thing happened with underlights and spoilers on cars, it's annoying seeing a 2 foot high spoiler on a truck ... the item was created for a purpose, to push your lite car down while turning at high speeds.
I think computer wattage and fan numbers are becoming the same way ... people are putting them in for looks and not pratical use.

All I'm saying is ... it doesn't make sense. I don't know maybe I'm too pratical for this stuff ... [addsig]

crono, i am a tightwad, and cheap by nature, but my comp is my baby.

if i splurge.. well at least i don't do drugs or drink my money away

my wife used to hate my PC cause it took so much of my time, then she realized, i am home.. no need to worry about hunting accidents, or other women..

she promotes my pc fetish now..
