Check this out: I joined a band called the OneUp Mushrooms here in Fayetteville. It's a project put together by Mustin at www.oneupstudios.com - we play arrangements of video game music in jazz, swing, rock, acoustic hiphop, whatever. Anyway, the old band sort of fell apart after putting a couple demo songs out and seven of us have since formed it again. We got invited to go out to San Jose, CA to play a few songs at the Game Developer's Conference.

(I'm the guy playing violin)
We're going to record a CD eventually and it will be out much later. For now you can check out Mustin's two CDs (which are also video game arrangements, but not live instruments) on the webpage above. There's a Chrono Trigger/Cross/Xenogears one and a new Sega one that comes out the 6th.

Wow that sounds cool, especially that you got invited to the GDC! Meet any game design greats, or get to go into any of the conferences? And how did your show go down?

Throw down some Beyond Good and Evil tracks and I will love you for the rest of time. [addsig]

Whats that game like Andrew, worth getting? It came out at only ?20 on the Xbox and I've been extremely tempted, though for the time being I'm a little skint after forking out ?70 for Xbox Live and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow.

53 minutes away. I could infiltrate the GDC with my trusty tranquilizer rifle and we'd be set.

[EDIT] f**k, you already left?

Not only has he left, but so has everyone else. So much for the infiltration... [addsig]

Sorry, I probably should've told you guys sooner - I didn't even think of it! We played at the GANG Awards Show where they handed out awards to various games for best audio, best orchestral score, best sound effects, etc. We were one of five acts to go on (also there was a band that did the music for the game Voodoo Vince, a group that played a classic games medley, some guitarists who played music from the Hobbit game, and Dweezil Zappa). The show was open to the public too, so a couple people off the OneUp message board watched us play. Oh, and Rob Hubbard got their Lifetime Achievement Award, if that means anything to any of you...

It was cool though. We met lots of video game composers like Tommy Tallarico (Earthworm Jim, among many others), Richard Jacques (Headhunter, Sonic R, and a track off Jet Set Radio - he's the coolest British guy I've ever met), Todd Fay, and we talked a bit with G4TV and www.music4games.net. All in all, much fun was had.

Plus, we went into the GDC expo for $50. I liked the Independent Game Awards display - we played Georgia Institute of Technology's little Puzzle Fighter knockoff, which was actually kind of neat. And I got to watch a couple of the band members engage in some Songster karaoke battle.

PS - Beyond Good and Evil is easily worth $20. Too bad it didn't win any awards at the show - while it was nominated a few times, it kept getting beaten by Lord of the Rings, the new Indiana Jones game, and Uru.

Oh, and fear not Cass - next year if we play at this thing again, it's taking place in San Francisco. [addsig]
