Beta 7.0, about a week before 7.1 was released. I resented having to suggest that I am a l337 haxor by voting so, however. I don't play anymore, but two strong years and a week third is definitely no small amount.
OtZman - of course it's not fun if you're playing against HL bots, they're all third party and as such, not professionally made. If you want to play a fps with semi-intelligent bots, frankly I've found the UT series to be the game of choice. Utterly trashes the rest in single player replay.

I defy anyone to trounce the (Godlike) UT bots in a setting that favours bot strengths, such as a busy deathmatch game (especially if you max. out all their skills). It is just not humanly possible to compete with them for accuracy, at least with hitscan weapons.
However, they are easy to exploit in any game that favours tactical or intelligent play over sheer accuracy and reactions.

I never really mess with the base skill adjustments, but I normally play with the bot base skill set to Godlike... And I normally end up winning. *shrug*
Normally, in a one-on-one match, I'll get my ass handed to me, but if there are 3-4 of them in a game, I normall win. [addsig]

| The UT bots are good, but I don't think they offer up that much of a challenge. I usually set the difficulty to adjust to my skill, and I usually end up still trouncing them on "Godlike." But they are fun, though. |
You missed my comparison. My comparison was not UT Bots v. Players. My comparison was UT Bots v. Bots in any other deathmatch FPS. In this comparison, UT Bots have always been completely superior, imo. It's not just them being better. For example, many CS bots run around like retards, but once you confront one, they are deadly accurate. Sure the difficulty rating is therefore high, but the fun rating is like 0. Granted UT bots still have characteristics that make them play less strategically than humans; my opinion is that these properties are much further muted in UT than in other games. Obviously, the more complex the team game, the more exploitable they are (Assualt gameplay, for example), but I've still found them to be worthwhile competitors, even in CTF maps (although once I've learned their set defensive points it gets a bit more dull).

omgomgomghaxhaxhaxnewbz0rhax0r csbshs blbk lolololololol pwn j00 hs hs hs argh!!!oneoneone awp whore!!oneoneone lol. what exactly is wrong with cs? its a good, balanced game. sure, the community are often fags, but arent they with many popular games ? |
I really don't think this game is balanced. It just seems like a whack of guns thrown in with really odd values given to them. So many guns that should waste people take forever, and other guns just plain own you. It's fun, but far from balanced.

like what, pray tell? =P
on average the pistols take 2-4 shots in the chest to kill. 1-2 headshots.
on average the sub machine guns take 3-5 shots in the chest to kill. 1-2 headshots.
on average the rifles take 2-3 shots in the chest to kill. 1 headshot
and the sniper rifles vary from 1 shot (awp) to 3 (auto sniper)
i think these are fairly realistic balances, with the possible exception of the glock, for gameplay's sake.

Last time I checked if you get shot in THE FACE you'll die. In my personal opinion (as you've bitched at me time and time again about
Don't take any of this personally, I just felt like Lashing out at CS
