'Get your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!'

I didn't know it's a musical, but I enjoyed the poignant portrayal of Cole Porter's life. He's such a colorful character that his actual life mirrored his songs. It was also a treat to watch and hear contemporary musicians perform his classics (including Elvis Costello, Diana Krall, Alanis Morisett, Sheryl Crow, etc).
All in all, a good way to spend a Friday evening.

Now my feelings are all hurt. I think I'm going to pout.. Oh maybe two or three seconds now. Nickelplate got my clown joke. " SRC="images/smiles/icon_lol.gif">
I am currently watching "Crash"
I am finding it very difficult to tell the truth. The entire movie seems based on ignorance begetting ignorance, begetting even more ignorance about racism.
I understand that racism exists, but movies should clarify the existence, not promote its continuation by bringing it into more light or popularity through Hollywood actors.
I am going to force myself to watch it to its end in the hopes that a better message happens before the end.
Reminds me of that horrible movie "White mans burden"
I also have a request. Can we not begin another thread with this topic? This one loads in minutes its so big. At least until the database accessing issue is resolved. ![]()

I've never seen the movie you mentioned, but I have read the Kipling poem it takes its name from. If the movie is anything like the poem, I don't see any connection to Crash.
The poem is an example of the racist thinking of the period, and Crash is a dialogue about the evils of racism.
Obviously there are some characters who are racist in the movie, but in no way are they positively portrayed (unless they have a change of heart).
I mean, the traffic stop scene with Matt Dillon is so tense and disgusting you start really hating him. That is, until later.

I take it back, this movie is a must see.
When I posted earlier, I had watched only the first 10 minutes or so. That piece left a bad taste in my mouth and I posted prematurely.
I thought the car scene where Dillon rescues the woman was intense yes (especially after what he did earlier) but the scene where the little 5 year old girl is shot left me in tears. I was bawling like a baby.
Yes, this movie is a must see.

But I agree, those two particular moments were amazing.
I wanted to cry too!

It would be a spoiler if I told what happened to her afterward. People are shot in movies 10 times a day. What happened to her.... was unique.
and
go ahead, there's no shame in a cry if the situation warrants one. I do not mean to suggest that if mommy refuses to buy Quake 4 that you should throw a tissy but this, was warranted.

Its not nearly as bad as most critics say it is. I saw it last night with my friends hoping it would be so bad that it would be funny. I was actually pretty cool, not worth the money but pretty cool. I would give it a 2.5 out of 5.

I am half-way through "The Bridge on the River Kwai". It's an oldie, made in 1957, but it has a very catchy tune. I am sure you have heard it before.
And it's a very good war movie.

I must say, it was frieking awesome. They managed to combine stunning graphics, with fairly good acting and a plot that held up extremely well. I found that I was gripped the hwole time, I couldn't wait to find out more about what was going on.
To top it all off, everything was extremely well thought out, bordering on a sort of realism in every little detail.
I'd recommend watching it, it's well worth it.

I just saw "A History of Violence" tonight.
It was a good movie, but the sex scenes were a bit too much... Better to leave it to the imagination, yeah?
This movie featured multiple ass-kickings and one brief full-frontal-nudity shot and Aragorn with his hair cut. Plenty of blood and guts. Go see it!

There was a war movie I saw about a couple snipers after each other. Damned if I can recall a name but it was a relatively recent move (past decade). It was excellent. A must see.
I also watched Batman Begins last night. Was very pleased. I didn't really like the other renditions of the batman attempts, although Keaton did a good job. It might be though that I like Keaton movies.
If anyone can recall that sniper movie please post it as I would like to see it again.
Other great war movies:
1) The Great escape.
2) Guns of Navarone.
3) Hart's war.
4) There is one, again I cannot recall the name, about a concentration camp in WW2. The Japanese had a bunch of women captive. I wish I could remember it but its worth a watch as well.

Yeah, Enemy at the Gates. That movie rocks. Reno, see it. Now.

Just finished "Unleashed"
I liked it but had reservations about its setting. I am a big fan of Mr. Freeman, and Jet Li is no slouch either, but all those silly British accents almost ruined it. Its not that I hate British movies, but when its all mixed up or it feels mixed up cause of so many it feels wrong. First you have Freeman's American accent. His is the biggest star so you'd expect the movie to revolve around him and his speech patterns. The Mr. Li. His accent is, well its Li. Then all those supporting characters. All Beetle wannabees.
The who framed Roger Rabbit Star, Bob Hoskins, now he was pretty cool.
I just feel the movie was not all it should/could have been considering its actors.
Oh, thanks for the "Enemy at the Gates" heads up. " SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">
