The world record for most digits of Pi memorized and recited was set at 42,195 digits by Hiroyuki Goto of Japan in February, 1995. It took him nine hours to recite.

Technicaly, any arbitrary point can be considered to be the "center of the universe" so who's to tell you you aren't?

Come now, I'm not that narcissistic.

Oh yes... Lep, how does pi differ from any other irrational number? Don't fully understand the explanation of "transcendental" numbers in that link. I knew that 'Pi' and 'e' are incredible numbers but I didn't know they were both part of such a select group. Being a scientist I run into 'e' allot, and I've always wondered about it and never really understood. Particularly the fact that

d/dx ex = ex

Has always amazed me. It seems very strange that the value of a function could continually be equal to the value of it's slope.

For you doubters out there I have to agree with him. There really is nothing deeper than this that I can imagine. I truly envy mathematicians the patients to learn enough about math to understand this stuff. I'm to impatient, I just want to know enough calc and diffeq to get the job done.

I totaly agree. I once tried to learn as many digits of PI as I could, and when I reached 110 i stopped and ofcourse I forgot them after a couple of days >_<. I guess I have to give it another try sometimes

The fun thing with PI is that there is no pattern, you have to learn every number. That makes it even more impressive. Maybe I'm the only one that find it cool when someone can memorize a lot of numbers like that

In 10 days I could probably learn the first 1000 digits if I just tried...

and I don't really get that atom thing above ^_^

I'm interested in how this would work. Cause making pi more and more precise won't account for the fact that you'll also need the radius of the universe to the accuracy of the width of a hydrogen atom. And that's not happening.

Face/Off, I saw that too - bloody awful film. As I cynically spouted on TEH IRC! - all gimmick, no substance. The plot was thin and badly executed, the non Troy/cant remember the other guys name characters could have been discarded entirely as their significance to the film was nothing.

Even when they were, they were cliched as hell - take the rogues in that institute, stereotypical "psychos" with smart haircuts and glasses, softly spoken.. *yawn* haven't we seen this a thousand times before? I managed to watch til the end, even with the break for the 10pm news, but was pretty much bored and resigned to defeat within the first 45 minutes. Mediocre and unoriginal.

I saw The Thin Red Line the other day too, *yawn* once more - overly long, overly iconic (and once again, cliched) and it ripped so much from other war films before it that it became embarassing to watch.

Bleh, i'm gonna rent something good to stem this tide of crapola films that are worming their way onto terrestrial television.
