Wow, I was personally bored to sleep by Kingdom of Heaven. The first time I watched it I was baked out of my mind too, which should have made it interesting in itself. I assumed that because I was high I didn't get the point of the film, so I tried watching it sober, but I couldn't get past the first chapter before I turned it off. Weird considering it's a Ridley Scott film and all.

Not exactly the comparison i would have chosen to illustrate my distaste for someone. Try imagining life without cardboard.

Also, how can one "hate" someone they do not personally know? I dislike many actors, but hate none. I often wonder how this or that person ever made it big in the first place. Was it nothing more than nepotism or something fouler?

Anyway, I think they could have done worse. They could have done better but Neeson already had a part. He could hardly have played himself and his son. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

I have always considered myself reasonably open minded but I have to ask, how can anyone who admits to being stupid enough to fry his mind have sense enough to know a good movie when they see one?

Still, its your choice but I wouldn't expect many to think you credible when you admit to such actions.

Watched the Alien Quadrilogy last week. Loved 'em all, the only part I didn't like was the CG in the 3rd one, I hate all the tacky CG in the early 90s movies. Granted I watched the director's cuts which in some ways are subtly better. I had only seen the first two previously.

Saw AvP after I had seen the entire Alien and Predator series, I only need to buy Pred 2 now and I'll leave AvP off my list for now. The first half was pretty interesting, had potential to be alright, but the last half was just garbage.

"Goblet of Fire" was the best Harry Potter movie released yet. It did not follow the book that closely, which is a good thing. Otherwise, the amount of story and detailed plot that the film has to cover would have been overwhelming.

It's full of action, and it recreates the magical feeling that the readers get from Rowling's books. Ralph Fienne is a fine Voldemort.

I didn't get a chance to watch it today.

I was wondering about this myself. The last three books (4-6), and I assume movies are huge reads. How much will they have to dock to make a 2-3 hour movie?

Did it ruin the plot condensing the film Satch?

and, who the heck is "Good Charlotte"?

A lame emo-boy band that wears heavy make up and sings that s**ty song "Girls don't like boys girls like cars and money" and their entire fan base consists of 11 year old girls who cry themselves to sleep at night and then write about it in their MSN Spaces because nobody loves them and it's the only way they can express their anger about how much their life sucks.

Anyhoo, just watched Team America: World Police again, great great movie <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif"> <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

Good Charlotte aren't emo - just generic pop-punk if you ask me. And if you are willing to look past their worst songs (ie. the singles), they have some pretty good songs in that genre. Nothing to appeal to people who aren't into that sorta music of course, but thats to be expected. They're no Fall Out Boy, New Found Glory, The Starting Line or Midtown, but still have some decent enough tracks. Anyhow, that's all besides the point of the thread <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

I must declare that Jane Austen is a remarkable woman. Now, after stating that indisputable fact, the latest film adaptation of "Pride and Prejudice" is quite remarkable too. Dare I say it is the best period piece I've seen since "A Room with a View".

The movie worked well on so many levels. The casting was first-rate, and the cinematography and direction elevated it to a breathtaking experience. If you enjoyed "A Room with a View", you shall find it most pleasing also.

I highly recommend it.

It depends on how the story was abridged. For the most part, it doesn't detract from the plot. However, I have to say that the movie is more enjoyable if you have read the book. Some of the details might go unnoticed if you did not read the book.

Watched Pulp Fiction yesterday. Nice movie. Also rented out all Kevin Smith movies, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Clerks and Mallrats. Also nice movies IMO. Trying to get hold of Aqua Teen Hunger Force DVD's.


Reckless disregard for childrens well being, women and nothing but utter contempt for other cultures.

Yet, you didn't rent his only "good" movie: Chasing Amy. (The Clerks cartoon is also very funny, thankfully that wasn't written by him)

A few things.

I haven't seen KoH, but I don't think Orlando Bloom can hold a candle to someone like Russel Crowe when it comes to the "men, follow me to your death!" department. I mean, when I watch Gladiator I have this urge to fight alongside Crowe. Like BlisTer said, I don't think Bloom has the charisma needed for the role. He's such a pretty boy wimp.

Speaking of Crowe, I made a friend of mine watch LA Confidential (1997) with me and he loved it (like I knew he would). Definitely go out and see this movie if you haven't.

I made a different friend watch Shaun of the Dead with me, and he thought it was great. It's a great film on its own, but if you're familiar with zombie movies and their conventions, it really enriches the viewing of Shaun of the Dead.

I rented the DVD for The Office Season 1 (UK) the other day just to rewatch it, and I immediately remembered why I loved it so much. Such a great series, and it really gets good in Season 2, when Dawn and Tim's relationship starts taking center stage.

Its always best to have some knowledge of a situation before commenting so sure. Please watch the film before you condemn its actors.

Blooms character doesn't need, nor use charisma to gain what he needs. He uses ones own pride to achieve the intention. When he takes commoners and Knights them he is asked "You think by just saying they are Knights will make them fight better"? His reply, "Yes"

This gives the people that he needs a choice. They are not compelled with mear words, they are trusted to make the right choice.

Some may say that since he is reading the lines that the sentence itself pulled it off but I say that without a modicum of acting ability the sentence would have failed.

In the end, watch the movie then get back to us with some working knowledge please.

You know why I am convinced? I liked the movie without knowing who he was. Yes, I saw LotR but never made the connection. I did recognize him from... somewhere but couldn't for my butt figure out where.

Being unbiased might have made the difference. Then again, now that I am aware, my opinion hasn't altered much. I now see that he has taken a step from support actor to lead. (at least I feel that his role in KoH was one of the lead roles. His role in LotR was less so IMO)

Still, although the movie has biblical connotations, it is not really a religious movie. Not on a level with 10 commandments of Noah's ark at least. I would recommend seeing it to anyone. Its not as if its a total loser even if you do dislike Bloom because there were many other people in the movie.

Anyway, I am not here to convince you that Bloom is anything other than what you think. All I am saying is, watch it before you condemn the whole thing. Fair enough?

Definitely fair enough.

The problem is, I just don't like Orlando Bloom. For no legitimate reason. I just don't like the way he looks, moves, and talks.

I also don't like Elija Wood (he's so good at playing the douche in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind that I can't help but think he's not acting), but it doesn't stop me from enjoying Sin City or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind, because we are supposed to dislike him. However, in the LoTR trilogy where he played a character we were supposed to like, I couldn't help but make fun of Frodo throughout the entire thing.

So, while rationally I know that I shouldn't let my feelings about particular actors sway my opinion of movies (especially before I've seen them) I find it hard to actually suppress my anti-Bloom prejudices.

So, KoH may be a good movie, but I don't think I'll be able to enjoy it as much as I would if I didn't know who Orlando Bloom was. Just the fact that he's in it may prevent me from ever watching it.

I know what you mean. I used to actually boycott movies if it had an actor I disliked. Tom Hanks. Everything before Forrest Gump was pure unadulterated crap. I actually refused to watch his movies. I have since reevaluated my opinion because of Gump and now enjoy his stuff. John Travolta, horrible actor before the movie where he was the angel? (cannot recall the name now). His movies now are much more tolerable. Nick Cage, everything before he played in Fatherhood or whatever it was where he had the second chance was crap. I now think that as long as he doesn't attempt to be macho, or tough that he does an excellent job.

So yes, I know what you mean.

Yeah, the only two actors I have a problem with are the ones I mentioned. Actually, Keira Knightly kinda gets on my nerves for being so skinny. I want her to eat something.

I checked IMDB and I think you were referring to Michael and The Family Man.

I hate Keira Knightly. SHe looks like she's trying to act like a fish by sucking in her cheeks or soomething.

I like Tom Hanks, he earned my respect after Castaway, that was an amazing performance.
