I trust valve too much to believe they'd let him touch it with his lake of poison directing skills ... or lack there of. I know Valve isn't stupid (as a whole), and I'm pretty sure they're not going to just sell rights and leave it be, they'll probably be involved in most of the pre-production process and have some final says. (I wouldn't be surprised if some of the people got exec/producer credit.)

Perhaps my world is indeed small but the cast of "The Island" is a cast of mostly nobodies.

One movie does not make a legend be.

As I said, I kept waiting for someone to say "but I was the chosen one" a parody of obi wan of course.

He was/is so unknown to me that had I not recognized his name, his face would have just been a total nobody. As it was, his name only clicked but his face remain.... nobody.

I recognized few others and all were nobodies too.

Sorry if thats offensive but, there you are.

Anyway. (I would have said Sean Bean too, but the only good stuff he's ever been in is lotr and goldeneye)

And Ronin, which is a cool movie...though he did play a piece of s**t in that film <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Oh and I agree that that cast is not nobodies...

Ewan McGregor: Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge, Rogue Trader, Star Wars films, etc...

Scarlett Johnansson: The Horse Whisperer, Lost in Translation, The Girl with the Pearl Earring, etc...

Sean Bean: LOTR trilogy, Troy, Ronin, Equilibrium, Sharpe films, everything else EVER

Anyone seen the teaser for Silent Hill? That movie looks awesome, and the director and writer both have true passion for the games and are fairly respectable in their jobs, as well the soundtrack is completely done by Akira Yamaoka (who did all the games) so it's not going to be some Hollywood pop-rock music zombie explosion fest. It was filmed in Ontario, and I think it's coming out April-ish.

Yeah I saw that teaser and it looked pretty cool. Resident Evil: Apocalypse has left me with a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth when it comes to video game to movie adaptations even though I liked the first one, so I hope this repairs that damage. It's not directly based on one of the games is it? I've only played the first and fourth, so wasn't too sure. I do seem to recall that the cop in the first game was called Cybil though, so I guess it ties in in some regards.

Paul W Anderson is the second worse game->movie maker ... guess what he has his hands on now: Castlevania. Produce, Written, and Directing. *grabs a gun* WHY?!?!

Christophe Gans is a respectable film maker. The only thing I didn't like that he did was the re-edit on Brotherhood of the Wolf. When I saw it in theatrical release here it was fantastic. It was mysterious. You had immense amounts of trouble unwinding the plot before it happened ... so naturally, I bought the DVD ... when it came out 2 years later. And he re-edited it! Now, the focus of the movie is the relationship between two characters ... which wasn't the focus before. I'd like to get a home copy of the cut I saw in theaters. I'm getting tired of this Director's Cut only on DVD crap. They did it with Blade Runner too. I liked the voice over dammit. I hear the Canadian version is the theatrical cut for BotW, I might just ship it over.

If you can find out for certain I'd be happy to look for a copy for you and ship it down.

Thanks for the offer. I appreciate it, however, it seems it'd be cheaper on ebay. There's a slew of Canadian copies floating around there and the shipping is reasonable (making the total price for the 3 Disc edition $20).

That and I don't have any money right now. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Those and the StarTrek: Next Generation seasons are on my wish list. Wish because they are rarely so cheap here in Australia.

Watchin the first season of 24. I'm on the 5th or 6th episode right now and it's so addicting. They leave such cliffhangers at the end of each episode you just have to keep watching.

Pick this up, guys, it's amazing.

24 is a seriously amazing TV series - well worth checking out for those behind the times :P Watch the series in order though, as spoilers abound otherwise.

We watched Aeon Flux last night, which was...not quite what I expected. Another film in the Matrix/Equilibrium line of totalitarian government based sci-fis, it had a somewhat interesting plot but the action scenes were crap. The hand to hand combat is all entirely standard fare with jumpy cameras to avoid showing the non-expert fighters looking like idiots, and the gun fights don't really bring anything interesting to the table. Charlize Theron looks, predictably, damn hot in the film and that is certainly one of the reasons we chose to watch it, but almost all the costumes she wears look utterly ridiculous. Love her pyjamas though - here's hoping that's one things from the film that genuinely influences the future <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">

Just curious if anyone here has heard of Hudson Hawk
It's an old comedy catburglar movie starring Bruce Willis (he's actually good in this movie) and Danny Aiello
pretty clever, they use songs to keep track of time during robberies

Hudson Hawk is cheesy fun.

I saw Aeon Flux weeks ago, never said anything, however. I'd have to disagree with Reno (what else is new?) I'm not saying the movie is great. But it deals with things well that other Sci-Fi movies would piss on. The movie isn't an action movie, I knew that going in, and I knew the action was bad, so I didn't have much of an opinion on that portion of the movie. Keep in mind, I hate the director, simply for the fact that she gave Michelle Rodriguez her "breakout role". Bitch. But, the movie is fairly well made. It's lovable as Starship Troopers, but doesn't have nearly as bad acting. (It's still pretty moderate though).
I enjoyed it. The weird thing is, I was pretty ... untantalized about half way through ... then ... something happened ... Subliminal hypnosis I think, and I suddenly liked the movie. A lot. So did my friend, whom I was watching the movie with. We discussed that later, and he was like, "yeah ... same here ... weird".

The other day, I watched the Extended Cut of Gladiator. Holy Sh*t. With a capital "S". The additions are fantastic. Most are just deleted scenes which are on the other version, but, there is so much more. One of my favorite deleted scenes was cut back in: The Execution of Germanians. Great scene. (Not because of the execution, of course). There's even more development of the sister/senator "plan", which was really nice to see, because it brings Connie Nielsen's character to a higher standing.

Well worth buying again, if you haven't, just don't spend $30. Sadly, it doesn't include a DTS-ES track, like the original DVD release. That's kind of annoying.

Speaking of StarGate, I'm borrowing all the seasons from the library ... got some copying to do. <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">
