I have to say, when I saw you guys talking about Star Gate, I thought about what I've been watching recently, and wanted to talk about it. So I looked up this old thread, and here it is....

I've been Watching Season 1 & 2 of Breaking Bad from AMC. And I gotta say, it's really really good. It's listed as a drama, but I can't think of it that way, it's too funny and witty for me to feel it ultimately is a drama. But regardless, it's a pretty good show, with good actors. If you want to be somewhat surprised, don't read my description of what the show is about in the spoiler tab below.
Show spoiler

Anyhow, I just got through watching Season 2 on DVD, will be starting season 3 in a couple weeks (watching with friend's schedule) and Season 4 is currently still airing on TV. I wanted to know if anyone else has seen it, and what they thought about it? And of course to spread the word to check it out. The first episode is a pretty good gauge to show you the kind of issues the characters deal with all the time. But it also builds up a lot of tension, so it never gets stale for me. And after every episode I gotta say, "dang, this is a good show!"

Go watch it! smiley

I've watched it since it started. It is a good show, but Season 2 was the best so far.

Season 3 feels like a lot of ground work ... I really suggest that you IMMEDIATELY start Season 4 to not feel sort of ripped off by the way Season 3 ends.

Today I'm going to a big city. If I happen to find season 1 on DVD I might buy it. (If you say it's good then I believe it is true).

I'll finish Stargate first though, and that may take some more weeksmonths since I am trying not to see too many on a day. (1 - 4)

Thanks for the hint! I did not read the spoiler part because every surprise is a spoiler to me smiley

PAUL - its a great movie, very funny, and loaded with many hidden easter eggs, some in your face some not so much.

Your Highness - not the best of movies, but still funny, and what they lacked in some areas they made up with tits and ass.

Two of the best shows that never made past a first and second season.

Firefly, Dead Like Me. smiley

Yeah really disappointed in Skyline, what an f-ed up ending.
Though I did just watch Battlle LA and Sucker Punch, B_LA I really liked and I liked S_P too mostly for the CGI.

Skyline was more lost potential than anything else ... they're just stuck in the apartment the whole time.

Battle L.A. was alright. It has some big problems. Though I did watch it on August 12th 2011 ... which is the date the movie takes place (coincidence) which was kinda neat.

Facing advanced civ's with our modern day weapons and whpping their butts ....yeah a little far fetched I agree. If you can travel from star to star you have major technology and shouldn't lose to someone alot less advanced.
But that's entertainment I guess.

But the fact remains that lead/brass traveling fast enough and impacting with tissue causes damage.
Technology has a hard time dealing with that sometimes. :P

Most alien invasion movies don't make sense because they want our planet for some feature or resource. For example:

Show spoiler

It's not that I don't want alien invasion war movies ... but like with all Sci Fi it's much more fulfilling if it's plausible or there's truth in it. If it's just stupid, then it's rather difficult to care about what's going on.

I wish there was more realistic awesome sci fi out there. As it stands there's like ... Moon ... and that's it. Sunshine is also good ... but it has it's own trope violations. I'm fine with gimmicks (like the Show spoiler) as long as they're used sparingly.

I think most of the issue is people try to simplify their movie's message too much, while making the actual plot overtly complex. Sometimes, a nice simple movie with a powerful message is far better.

Dunno about the rest of you but I'll be glad when 2012 comes and goes. All these end of the world movies has gotten on my nerves. Yeah, some are even good but the end of the world craze has just about run out of ideas.

About the only thing they have not made a movie about is the world ending cause reality tv got canceled. smiley

Anyway, come on 2013.

I think Hollywood is running out of ideas to make movies...especially good ones.
I'm sure you've all noticed all the remakes ...usually bad coming out of the studios lately.

Yeah, the recent True Grit remake. They could have picked and week or month before the time frame of this movie and made another movie about Rooster Cogburn. I am stumped as to why they chose to remake that one adventure.

I am pretty psyched about the new Planet of the Apes movie. It looks more less fresh from the previews. I hope against hope that they aren't showing the 10 best parts in the previews.

LOL....Yeah they sometimes show all the good parts in the trailers and you get disappointed at the show. Did that with cowboys & aliens.

They probably edit and put the film together and go "Well crap that sucks, let's put all the good parts in the trailer and get people to come so we can grab some cash b4 they say it stinks."

Rise of the Planet of the Apes isn't bad. It's biggest problem is it's too much groundwork. It's obvious they have a bigger plan in mind for the franchise, I just wish they covered more in the flick.

If you go into it with the mindset that it's a story about Caesar, you'll be fine.

It also seems to be more re-imagining than prequel, since most of the Ape-lore from the original flicks and the book is violated (and more practical, if you can believe it)

I liked Cowboys and Aliens ... I made sure to see it when it first came out so the ultra-spoiler TV trailers hadn't started yet (I hadn't seen any of the space craft or the aliens at all before seeing the actual flick)

As for True Grit, it was another adaptation of the book, not a remake of the movie.
