Commercial breaks certainly don't help a long film feel shorter.

Face Off is such a piece of s**t ... I hate you John Woo.

Thin Red Line is sooooooo god dammed boring. Except for Nick Nolte ... because he kicks ass ... and when Woody Harrelson blows his ass off.

I just got back from the movies, saw the Bourne Supremacy. Bad ass, and thank God they killed Clive Owen off in the first one (s**tty actor).

I like how movies are getting back to the whole idea of continuity. You'll notice in sequels from time to time s**t is really different from the first movie, Blade did this a little bit. But its great when they keep such continuity like in the Bourne series (Bourne ... Conspiracy (?) is next I believe ... its whatever the last book is)

It's a good watch ... except Julia Styles is a no talent bitch. I hated her in the first one too ... and in everything else she's in ... and she's not hot, so don't even start on that angle. [addsig]

The last film I have seen recently is Dr. Strangelove. It's brilliant, of course, and George C. Scott is awesome in it.

As for an actual new movie, the only one I'm really interested in seeing is The Bourne Supremacy, but I'll probably get to the theater and see it.

Heh, believe it or not (with my hatred of just about everything ) there is! Let's see..

Taxi Driver
Mean Streets
Scarface
Platoon
Das Experiment
Full Metal Jacket (although admittedly it kinda loses it a bit after the boot camp)
A Clockwork Orange..
(in fact, most Kubrick stuff)
Seven Samurai
Jaws
Ghostbusters
Leon
The Usual Suspects
tarantino stuff, but not overly like - i personally think he's way overrated..
Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma
Trainspotting
Battle Royale
Audition
Ring (jap version, original)
Das Experiment
The Godfather I, II (and i suppose III but I wont label the trilogy as a "favourite" because of number III)
Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi
Goodbye Lenin (havent seen this all the way through yet but it was good from what I saw

bleeeh loads really, anything good with a decent plot/direction etc...

Ringu???? What the s**t!
I'm sorry, that movie was terrible with its I'll-fill-in-this-plot-hole-with-the-fathers-preminitions crap ...

Otherwise you're list is pretty decent.

What about Paul T. Anderson's and Wes Anderson's stuff? ... They both kick ass ... although Bottle Rocket kind of blew. [addsig]

I dont think its ringu I saw, cant remember any father character ?? it was Ring 0, if i recall correctly - came as a bundle with Audition and another crazy japanese flick..

to my shame, I havent actually seen the royal tenenbaums/bottle rocket, I had a tip off from my film buff friend to avoid the former His recommendations usually suit my taste as well..

out and out comedy films generally aren't my bag, theres a few that I like but most I avoid with a passion, most of the ones i've watched are pretty simplistic humour.. - ill keep an eye out for some of his titles though

thanks as well, my list is pretty much a quick look at the more well known titles I enjoy (and have watched more than once).. the list is much longer, but I thought that was a good general overview of my tastes.

Heh- The Royal Tenenbaums is a great flick. The scene where Gwyneth Paltrow's childhood self looses her finger is just priceless.

It's a great comedy, but it really is incredibly sad at some points. Very very good movie overall. [addsig]

I like Face Off actually. Sure the plot and characters are pretty discardable despite the stories attempt to give them depth, but the action is stylish and exciting. Much better than Broken Arrow if you ask me...but then I far prefer Nicholas Cage to Christian Slater, so that could explain it!

Gwil, I really enjoyed Audition too. Really strange film, that develops unlike any other I've seen. The fact is begins as a somewhat comic drama, and ends as a disturbing horror (and the change between these styles is extremely slow yet really interesting to watch uncover) sets is apart from most other films I can think of.

I recommend you watch "Ichi the Killer" (the live acted film as opposed to the anime, I've not seen that), its another film that is at times difficult to watch due to its torture scenes, but the film itself is really good and even without the graphic scenes that make it popular, it would be an excellent film.

Saw that a couple of weeks ago ReNo - watched the anime, then the "real" Ichi.. didn't get to the end though, missed the last 40 minutes or so because I had to shoot.

Looked good from what I saw, bit depraved though (I figure thats the whole point but, meh)

The anime was pretty darn good as well, but the actual film was better of what I saw. The anime flick acts almost as a good background/scene setter before watching the full Ichi as well.

Oh yes... Lep, how does pi differ from any other irrational number? Don't fully understand the explanation of "transcendental" numbers in that link.

Well, transcendentals are the irrationals that aren't the root to any integer polynomial- a polynomial with integer coefficients, like 3x2 + 2 - so numbers like sqrt2 and so on are irrational but not transcendental. You'll need a proof of the Lindemann-Weierstrass theorem and to know lots of algebra

Gwil, ... Ring 0 .... OH! ... that. Yeah, that's not the "original" that was made after "The Ring" which was based off of "Ringu". Yeah ... well just for prior notice, Ringu blows ass chunks

I haven't seen Ring0 yet ... doubt I will in the near future either.

[NOTE]
Ringu = Japanese (old)
The Ring = American
Ring 0 = Japanese (new ... er)

And I guess they're making a "The Ring 2" ... don't really know how. Maybe it's based off Ring 0.

Reno, Yes ... yes Face Off is better then Broken Arrow ... but they both still suck [addsig]
