Sky Captain was awesome.

The first thing I thought of when the movie started was that, "this is how the new superman movie should look" (not that it will, but it would completly fit).

I loved the old 40s radio show feel of the thing. It totally rocked.

On another note, Sin City looks ... interesting to say the least. That comic book really isn't that great, but Frank Miller is so awesome.
They're doing the same thing they did in Sky Captain, where NOTHING on the screen was actually there, except for the actors and the small props for the actors (ie. clothes).

But, they're making Sin City look VERY much like the comic, the movie is black and white, and only certain colors (I've only seen red so far) are in color. And they're vibrant.
Also, Sin City is said to have the largest ensemble cast ever. Which isn't always a good thing, but it looks promising here. [addsig]

I fancy seeing a film called "Donny darko" aparently its very good. Saw The shawshank redemption couple of weeks ago, and that was a very good flick, which I can recomend.

The Shawshank Redemption was a good film. same director (Frank Dara-something) that done The Green Mile, a great film. the 1st time i seen any of TGM was only from half way through, and i still pronounced it the best film i'd ever seen.

it's probably still up there.

British themed films are notoriously unsuccessful here in the States, thats a sad fact, but I just finished watching "Calendar Girls"

I highly recommend it..

(notice, I did not say, British made films, so keep your derogatory remarks to yourselves, British made, does not in and/or of itself signify unsuccessful.. look around you, this site fairs rather well)

Finally got round to watching 'Cypher'. Great film, lots of twists and turns that felt natural to the plot. Reminded me a little of 'Gattaca' in places. Totally different film but coming from the same train of thought.

Now for 'The Warriors' I saw bits of this a while back but didn't take much notice of it (I think I was flicking between two different channels at the time).

I generally don't like British films as most of them fall under either the romatic comedy (almost always starring Hugh Grant), or the typical laaandan gangster drivel. Occasionally, the odd film will appear like Dog Soldiers, 28 Days and Shaun Of The Dead and break the mould. Don't know whether this is down to smaller budgets and having to appeal to the mainstream to recuperate expendeture, but it is a shame there aren't more films with a bit of an edge to them.

Watched 'The Warriors' last night and it was really good. No reliance of super-duper special effects. Simple plot premise with lots of characterisation (you really root for the protagonists...even if they're not exactly on the right side of the law). Locations were all captured well on film and I reckon it still stands up to more modern films.

I'm also looking forward to seeing how 'Rockstar' turn it into a game. I can see great potential but at the same time they could easily fluff it up and turn it into a second outing for 'Manhunt' which was quite average.

Collateral is a great film; love the club shooting scene and the darkness to it. I thought the very ending was a bit unlikely, but it makes sense if you think about it..!

Bagged me the first season of Millenium today so that'll keep me busy for a few weeks I kinda lost touch with the series after season 1 as British TV has a habit of fluffling up the schedules and it ended up being shown at something ridiculous like 3am.

Second season is out soon so I thought i'd better bring myself back up to speed!

I'm surprised to see that I made not comment on Collateral throughout the course of this thread. Really great movie, definitely one of my favorites from the summer. Favorite non-comedy easily and I've found myself recommending it to everyone.

Another thing I feel like mentioning is the local newspaper film critic seemed to really let loose with his standards this summer. There were far too many four star reviews. It seemed like every other movie that wasn't intrinsically terrible got a four star. The summer movies weren't that good.

I saw Shaun of the Dead tonight. Whoever thinks this movie isn't good is a moron. There, I said it.

This is by far one of the best zombie movies ever. And No, I don't count Romero's movies, since they suck ass. I mean, granted he made up the whole flesh eating thing, those movies are really bad.

Shaun of the Dead gives a complete, hysterical, situation of what someone would probably really do if Zombies started walking the Earth.

Past the story (which has no bulls**t, its pretty linear and straight forward, which is perfect for this movie), The one thing that really stood out was the makeup and special effects (not the CG kind). If someone got their stomach ripped open, it looked real (for the most part). If someone got shot, it looked real. Overall, everything looked amazing. This is one of the only movies that had really good gore effects. And its well fitting for a zombie ... comedy.

I strongly suggest seeing it. [addsig]
