Sure, tis a little late to talk about the movie (I just saw it on TBS, it had been a year since I watched it). Its a really great movie. For those of you who dont know, its about three men who escape from a chain gang, one of which is highly intelligent, the other two are as dumb as a bag of hammers. They set out on a quest to find a treasure the intellectual one found and burried before he was put on a chain-gang. But getting the treasure wont be easy with constant troubles persuing them, from the cops after their hide, to the insideious KKK (later in the movie that is).

The movie is set around 1937 or so.

It's loosely based on Homers "The Odyssey," too. Although it varies greatly, since it was "modernized" for it's time period.

Good flick- rented it a few months ago. Worth watching. [addsig]

Yeah, I noticed that it was based off "The Oddyssey". I might pick it up, to read it - since the movie was based off it a bit, theres a good chance of it being a good book. [addsig]

It's not a bad book- but it can get pretty long and boring. The style that it is written in isn't typical of modern stories by any means- so it takes a while to get used to the flow. Having it pass through Greek songs from pre-800 B.C.E. to Greek prose, and from Greek prose into whatever language you decide to read it in- it's just jarring to say the least.

It's got some great parts to it though- but I think you may be a bit disappointed if you think it's going to follow the movie too closey. Although once you DO read it, some of the symbolism becomes much more clear- the Sirens, the dressing up during the last "performance," the visit to the land of the dead (the flood), etc. [addsig]

Its one of the best films of all time imo. I'm listening to the films soundtrack right now as it happens. [addsig]

Film's OK, but they should have referred more to the Oddysey
