if it existed in the 70's and 80's, it was prolly great..

there are a few good groups now, but nothing memorable.

sadly, i doubt anyone will be listening to any music 25 years from now, created today.. but you can tune in 70 and 80's everywhere in the US

Ugh- I'm sorry, but most 80's music doesn nothing but piss me off. I don't want to hear simplistic guitarwork with a warbling singer fighting to gain direction over a crappy synth drum machine. That, and hair bands are definitive of evil.

But, as for likes, here are a few that I'm currently thinking of:
The Doors ( http://www.thedoors.com/ )
The Smashing Pumpkins ( http://www.spfc.org/ )
Nick Drake ( http://www.nickdrake.com/ )
Interpol ( http://www.interpolny.com/news.php )
Joy Division ( can't find a page for 'em - Kinda like an old-school Interpol)
Sigur Ros ( http://www.sigur-ros.com/ )
Soul Coughing ( http://www.scug.net/ )
My Bloody Valentine (Can't find a page- they were in the Lost in Translation soundtrack, if you care)
Jon Brion ( http://www.jonbrion.com/jonbrion.html )

That's about it for now, I guess... [addsig]

I have a wide range of random songs on my 2300 song playlist, but the major ones (the ones where I like most of their catalogue or have most of their cds) are:

Beastie Boys
Dropkick Murphys
Fear Factory
Foo Fighters
Half-Life Soundtrack
KMFDM
Korn
Led Zeppelin
Machinae Supremacy (www.machinaesupremacy.com)
Metroid Metal (www.metroidmetal.com)
Ministry
Nine Inch Nails
Nirvana
Operation Ivy
Our Lady Peace
Pennywise
Powerman 5000
Queens of the Stone Age
Rage Against the Machine
Rammstein
Rancid
Silverchair
Soundgarden
Stabbing Westward
Static-X
System of a Down
The Beatles
The Clash
The Dwarves
The Moody Blues
The Offspring
The Who
Toadies
U2
Yes

So basically it's a lot of random crap. Grunge, metal, punk, rock...

ha, my playlist has never been accused of having 'good taste' before. There's about 1000 other songs that drive some people insane, not counting all the screaming and growling metal and the evil german singers.

I don't believe so. There are two different covenants. One is death metal and this one is like industrial. I accidentally downloaded some of the other stuff and it was just annoying, I do have some crazy metal but it has to be just 'right' for me to really want to listen to it. If anything if you want to check out my Covenant sample the song "Call the ships to Port" or "Monochrome" two great songs.

dunno, actually, nothing made today seems to be around long already.

i admit, i mainly listen to NPR radio, but i do listen to music at times.

it just seemed that songs stayed on the top 40 list much longer back then, even weird songs like "Le Freak" stayed in the top ten for??? 20 weeks maybe..

anywho's i could be wrong ....again.... but i don't think so this time.. music comes and goes faster now.

look at the lists posted here.. the commonality??? 80's rock bands..

I agree that there seem to be a lot more disposable music nowadays, especially due to the rise of MTV (and it's inherant tendancy to focus on artists that make money and gain ratings rather than actual talent). I find it sad that the 90s will probably be remembered (musically) as the decade when manufactured bands and an over-saturatated rock scene ruled the roost. This decade seems set to follow in it's footsteps . [addsig]

I think the 90s will be remembered for grunge and nu-metal.
