I'm mostly into punk / ska / emo / rock, with a few other likes. I can't be bothered listing loads of bands so instead, here is my entire mp3 collection in a winamp playlist...

Nice collection Reno

My favourites would be:

Rancid
Catch 22

Frenzal Rhomb
Less Than Jake
Mad Caddies

Anything and everything thats decent really. Monqui knows my obsession with music well...

Electronic - Afx/AphexTwin, Autechre, Plaid, Boards Of Canada, Fischerspooner, Bogdan Raczynski, Cylob.. loads and loads - all from Warp or Rephlex records

Metal - KMFDM, NIN, Ministry, FLA, Pop Will Eat Itself, Graveland, Crowbar... etc etc

Indie/Rock - the cure, the clash, the smiths, radiohead.. basically hundreds of bands, artists, styles.. too numerous to begin listing. My CD collection is about 200/300/400 CD's (not entirely sure now)

I'm quite a geek about it all.. a fully paid up member of the muso society smiley

I'm not so much into Aphex twin. In fact, to be honest I think 2/3 of his stuff is utter crap. But everyone else under the sun who likes electronic music seems to think he's a god. Really I've tried to like his music, but I just don't, and I don't understand how everyone likes it. Maybe Gwil could shed some light on this.

The Broadways! If you like them, check out the Lawrence Arms. It has Brendan and Chris from The Broadways and they're one of the very few bands I consider to be good pop punk (Apathy and Exhaustion is one of the best albums ever made).

If you're into hardcore at all (I saw you had some Sick of it All), you should check out Trial By Fire, Break the Silence, and Strike Anywhere.

on a related issue, it has been said that "stairway to heaven" is the #1 most requested song in the united states, according to the polls i have heard on many rock stations i have listened to.. (most recently on yak_fighter home station X103 F.M. in Indianapolis Indiana)

my question, if its even answerable, does the rest of the world share this belief? is zepplins song the best ever?

For me, there's no such thing as best song ever. It's just too damned hard to choose. It's really more of a "what song am I enjoying the most right now?" for me, as you're going to get sick of a song eventually. [addsig]

no, thats not what i asked, i don't think zepplins song is the best either, but the polls say otherwise, what i am asking is, has anyone from outside the US ever heard this?? i wanna know if its as popular there as well.

For those who listen to In Flames it might interest you to know the lead singer was the basist of soilwork, who are much much better in my opinion. They are a lot heavier though...

I detest stairway to heaven, along with most of Zepplin's other 'songs'.

Hence why I like In Flames more. Soilwork's definitely more melodic and all, but sometimes I just need that KRUSH KRUSH KILL sound. Certainly both are better than the crap that is Arch Enemy. Death metal? Female singer? (granted, with a hellish voice) WTF!?

okay. I just accidentally clicked on my favorites bar and deleted the whole f**king post I spent 15 minutes on so I am SO f**kING PISSED

So I guess I'll just paste a couple tracklists of stuff I have made for people....

I made this mix for my friend Meadow at work. It was to kinda show her what some of the different genres they play at gothic-industrial clubs were, and what they sounded like. Thus with the short descriptions after each track, where I try to loosely classify it.

1. And One - Panzermensch (5:04)
-industrial
2. Assemblage 23 - Anthem (5:53)
-industrial ebm (electronic body music)
3. Beborn Beton - Another World (4:27)
-synthpop (lite industrial; usually love songs)
4. Covenant - Call the ships to port (Single Version) (4:23)
-industrial ebm; futurepop
5. Decoded Feedback - Phoenix (5:18)
-industrial
6. Feindflug - Leitbild (4:03)
-industrial; some might call this powernoise, too
7. Funker Vogt - Gunman (4:44)
-industrial
8. Hocico - Untold Blasphemies v.2 (Trim mix) (5:36)
-industrial
9. Neuroticfish - Velocity (5:00)
-industrial ebm; futurepop
10. Noisex - Serious Killer (4:07)
-industrial powenoise
11. Project Pitchfork - Timekiller (4:23)
-industrial
12. Stromkern - Night Riders (5:28)
-industrial (with hip-hop influence)
13. VNV Nation - Dark Angel (4:56)
-industrial ebm; futurepop
14. Wumpscut - Wreath of Barbs (5:23)
-industrial

Next is a mix I made for a friend who wanted "Happy Synthpop". Synthpop is sorrt of like "industrial lite"... it's electronic club music, but it's not as hard as industrial. Not all of this is actually 'synthpop', but most of it is lighter club music anyway:

Happy Synthpop & Stuff>>

>>

01. And One - Get You Closer (4:12)
02. Apoptygma Berzerk - Kathys Song (
6:34
)
03. Assemblage 23 - Let Me Be Your Armor (
4:25
)
04. Beborn Beton - Deeper than the Usual Feeling (
4:42
)
05. Bruderschaft - Forever (club mix) (
6:47
)
06. Covenant - Dead stars (
5:12
)
07. Delerium - Silence (
4:05
)
08. DeVision - Drifting Sideways (
4:28
)
09. Echo Image - Breath Of Life (
4:38
)
10. Enigma - Gravity of Love (Judgement Day Club Mix) (
6:13
)
11. FischerSpooner - Emerge (Adult Remix) (
4:51
)
12. Hooverphonic - Someone (
4:11
)
13. Iris - Annie Would I Lie to You (
4:21
)
14. Ladytron - Discotraxx (
3:50
)
15. Wolfsheim - Wundervoll (
4:14)>>

And finally, this is a mix of stuff I made my sister for Christmas. It's mostly harder industrial, though there are a fun 'fun and silly' tracks on it:

X-Mas 2003 Mix(for Jane)

01 - Aiboforcen - Twilight World (F8 remix)
02 - And One - Deutschmachine
03 - Android Lust - Suffer the Flesh
04 - Apotheosis - O Fortuna
05 - Bruderschaft - Forever (Anthem Remix)
06 - Covenant - Like Tears In Rain
07 - Cubanate - Oxyacedeline
08 - Decoded Feedback - Dark Star
09 - E Nomine - Das Omen
10 - Feindflug - Leitbild
11 - Genitorturers - I Touch Myself
12 - Hocico - Bloodshed
13 - KMFDM - Megalomaniac
14 - Neuroticfish - Velocity (original)
15 - Wumpscut - Kill A Raver
16 - Spray - I Am Gothic
17 - Kompressor - Kompressor Does Not Dance

A few other groups worth taking a look at:

Filament 38 - industrial group from here in Cleveland, hopefully I'll get to see them in a week or so.

Process of Elimination - industrial ebm from Buffalo, saw them open for Assemblage 23 and they were really good. I chat with Arick sometimes on AIM, he said they'd do a track for me if I did a club map for Action UT2k4

Stromkern - great group, very original ebm style, you can download their biggest hit, Night Riders, from their website for free even.

Ayria - lead singer from Epsilon Minus' first album's new band. pretty good, love her voice.

Informatik - their album, Nymphomatik, is just great fun (it's all about sex)

Okay, I'm going to post this before I accidentally delete it again.

Die Form - dark ambient electronic with female vocals, really amazing.

Hocico - dark moody industrial, very good

Heres a sampling of the groups I like.

NIN, Mindless self-indulgence, red hot chilli peppers, Kool Keith, System of a down, tool, roni size, benefit, massive attack, cage, outkast, ludikris, redman and methodman (and eric sermon), john the dentist, smashing pumpkins, eyedea, dj abilities, etc.

I used to like aphex twin alot but I dunno... it's just odd.

And jinx I never noticed you were from cleveland. I'm from canton so I guess we are kinda like brothers.

I'm surprised so many people like Mindless Self Indulgence. I mean, they are enjoyable and all for what they are, but worthy enough to mention them as one of your favorite bands?

And Orph, that would make sense. The masses are stupid, especially when it comes to music. I swear if I ever hear the live version of 'Outside' by Staind I will drive to X103 and murder the DJ. Fun fact: the afternoon DJ of X103 who was the most popular radio personality in central Indiana behind Bob and Tom was accused of rape over New Years. I wonder if he ever got charged...

Yes I know of it. My friend keeps learning how to play it on the guitar. I really fail to see the attraction of it, as well as most Zeppelin songs, I like them, but not THAT much. Even for classic rock.

Errr, I'm not really into hardcore at all actually, just happened to have a few songs from compilations and things I quite like Sick if it All, but not enough to go looking for similar bands or anything. Thanks for the suggestions anyway though. [addsig]

Errr no, I mean soilwork is heavier... you've obviously only heard thier pussy Figure Number Five album... Go out and buy (with great difficulty in locating) the album "The Chainheart Machine"... That'll blast you away with screaming and solos beyond comprehension!
