I can see how many times they've been viewed, but only implemented that a couple of months ago so it's probably not that indicative. So far, the most popular one has been the DoD mapping tut.

Ok, the jump-to new posts thingy doesn't exactly work correctly- it only takes you to the most recent page, instead of taking you to the oldest new post. I swear that will make sense if you just read it a few times

But basically, say I post something, and it turns out to be the 17th post, then I sign off. Then, say 15 more people post- that brings the post count for that topic up to 32, thus adding a new page. Clicking on the snark piccy will only jump to the 30th post, not taking into account the other 12 posts that came up since the last visit.

Ehh? [addsig]

first off it makes perfect sense, it also did back on page 39 when i did it.. but so far all i can see thats been added to solve this issue is this..

this does help tremendously, so i am not bitching, but it would be much nicer if, the site knew i had not been here for whatever how long and go to that page in the thread..

it may be asking for more code than its worth, so i am content.. but still it is a suggestion of note, for those people who happen to be away for a few days..

Unless Lep did some incredibly funky stuff with the back end of the website, I can't imagine that it would be too tough to do.

If it's anything like what I'm thinking, all that you would have to do is whilst checking to see how many posts are in a certain thread (which I assume is done, since there are the jump-to numbers) also check to see which number post is the oldest. Once you have that number, simply change the start part of the snark pic link from whatever post to start at to:

(15 * ((int) ($newPostNumber/15)))

or something along those lines... [addsig]

suggestion:

i would like to see a place here for a real name.. could be left blank for those whom wish it kept so, but.. many of us use our real names anyways.. its no more intrusive than "location" is

Don't know if it's been there for long, but the "random map" feature on the maps page is really interesting. GJ leper ! [addsig]

Not an important issue at all, but if you post an image that doesn't need resizing to width 800, then replace the image on the remote location, you can have any image size you want. I suppose the only way to fix this would be to re-check included image sizes every 20 views say. I'm guessing it would be too much of a load on the server to check every time...

Agreed on the new stuff that keeps appearing.. I often see something I haven't before and think 'cool'

I've had an idea. It might be interesting to see how effective the editing database is. for instance you could have a statistic like this:

% effectiveness = ((#Searches-#posts)/#Searches)*100.

Assuming that every search that does not result in a post constitutes a solved problem this would give you the percentage of questions which are already in the database. It might be pointless, but it would be interesting.

what if:

the editing forum mods made for sure, that each question, that is answered correctly, has a key word in the title..

it is my opinion, that the search-able database is missing stuff for two serious reasons.

1) lazy people not searching,
or
2) the database has no certainties when looking.

seems to me, that if the forum thread title asks "i have a question" but the thread is about lights.rad file editing.. the search option may miss it.

opinion???

If people are too stupid/lazy to do a proper search for their problems, then good luck to them and their illustrious mapping career. The database isn't amazingly great search-wise, I know, but meh

i tend to agree whole heartedly.. but i try my damnedest not to act on this belief. people are just naturally lazy, their first instinct is to bother the multitudes with their inquiries..

but, this is the site suggestion thread, and if we cannot suggest how to improve stupid people, well its a wasted thread.

bottomline, i feel the only way to discourage lazy, is to point it out whenever we see it, so if you see a question you know has a searchable answer.. resist the urge to answer it again, and point them back to the database.

Quick reply isn't working for me in IE (I'm on my parents computer while mine is out of action). If I press the show/hide button, then the reply box pops down, but the page then refreshes and the quick reply box is hidden again. [addsig]

I'm trying to upload some new thumbnails to my pit, but it won't replace the old ones. I've tried deleting them and then uploading, deleting my cache, using another browser, deleting that browser's cache, but the actual image file just isn't changing. It's as if snarkpit is keeping a cache of what is in my webspace, even after deleting it off the webspace.

I am uploading a different image, but it's the same filename.

Here are the offenders:

http://www.snarkpit.com/pits/kage_prototype/sewer/t_00.jpg
http://www.snarkpit.com/pits/kage_prototype/sewer/t_01.jpg
http://www.snarkpit.com/pits/kage_prototype/sewer/t_02.jpg

The most annoying part of all this is that it doesn't happen to any large image files, only the thumbnails...this same problem is occuring in my profile as well -- the thumbnails don't change, yet the larger images do.

[EDIT]: Ok, now it seems this isn't exactly the case. In my profile, only one large image has been updated (i.e. the second one). Frustrat'd! [addsig]

Is this a bug or just a crazy user ? If so, slap him. I just can't believe someone submits his map like ... 7 times.

Its a bug with SP and Navigator Mozilla when adding a map to your profile, it comes up with a text error message and it doesn't look as tho' the maps been added to your profile but it has took me a while to work that one out, i mentioned this a while back.
