Another suggestion is to have a "Post Mortem" on the creation of levels. They ahve to be well thought up rounded, good articles reviewed by you Leperous to achieve a standard. Put them in the tutorials or articles section. That way level designers can go back after releaseing a level and say what they did right and wrong and what they'd change or definately would not change if they had to redo the levels. I know I could do like two at least, I'm sure reno could do some. THen you guys can get your idol KFS to do a couple maybe and then newbies can read them and learn from them!

Under the terms of his current employment contract, KFS is currently able to do jack s**t.

And less praise for Lep. There he is, having the time of his life in hong kong and I'm suddenly getting suspicious amounts of spam... hmm.

I worship no mapper, but that is a very good idea nonetheless! Back in the day I wanted to break out my first handful of unreleased and s**tty, s**tty maps to write some articles on how not to map and how to avoid the newbie mistakes, but then my harddrive was wiped clean by someone else.

Thanks Yes, should let people upload example maps, never got round to it for some reason (probably having a subsystem to deal with the example maps, and what to do if they're rubbish etc.). A few weeks ago I went through a few tutorials and uploaded them locally, will have a fiddle with it next week.

And Ferret, that's quite a good idea but it could be hard to pull off well. It would have to be done on 'famous' maps that a lot of people have played and have comments from a few people on how certain areas work (or don't); maybe author's comments on how they'd change things would be better as footnotes. I can see a top-down image of the level, and having you click on the areas for comments and whatnot- maybe with connection/item placement overlays for it too with some cunning Javascript

How ever you can run it that would be awesome. You could write up a list of maps you want to test it on and then the level desingers could try to see if it would work maybe?

Postmortems would certainly be an excellent idea, I'd definately be all for writing a few. Reading postmortems of games in Game Developer or on Gamasutra is normally both a good read and enlightening on the game development process, and I've no doubts that the same could apply for level design. The upload allowance? Can't change that my horribly mutilated amigo- although it's technically 50mb the upload is limited by your connection speed and PHP script timeouts... if you need any large files uploading then you can e-mail them to me and I'll upload them for you.

Horribly mutilated? Speak for yourself rot-face.

I don't think answered questions are being counted anymore, although I'm not 100% sure.

edit: They aren't.

something i noticed when i was editing my comp map profile. when i submited my edit, i think the pit seen the instance of '1st' again, and added another /sup tag, which got printed.

i dunno how it would work, but could you get it to check whether the ST already has the tags, and doesn't need them added again.

[edit] i've edited this post (as you can see from this), but the same thing isn't happening here. so i hit the edit and submit buttons without changing anything on the maps profile page, and it happened there again. i've left it for you to see, in case this sounds like babble to you. it does to me [/edit]

Don't know if its already been mentioned or not (don't fancy reading the previous 41 pages!), but on the maps forum, when the map is tied to the author's profile, instead of listing the number of pages in the thread it just says 'intro'.

Minor niggle but annoying (to me)
