With all these recent thread resurrections going on, I was thinking it might be nice to have a feature that would automatically lock threads that hadn't had a reply within a certain time period. Say, two months or something? You could use a different icon and designate them as "archived" or something. I guess you'd have to exempt unsolved editing problems from the system though.

Absolutely. although i was the culprit on one resurrection, I hate them.

I have something of a radical proposition to make. We have something of a tradition between the Snarkpit regulars of reviewing and critiquing each other's unfinished maps so that the final product can be better; however, newer members (and, occasionally, regulars) will simply give us screenshots and a download link.
While I'm not saying that the latter approach is somehow petty or against the spirit of the Maps forum, those are two very different usages of the Maps forum.
I propose that we create an additional forum, one for getting involved in the process of the maps that get posted and leave the Maps forum for simple showcasing. I don't think this is too radical an idea, and would lessen our image here at the Snarkpit of being hostile to newcomers (as maps simply being showcased would require none of our famous criticism).
(Sorry if this post hasn't made any sense. I'm very hungry and very tired. I think I got the point across, though.)
Fixed CS:Source gameplay modes, and made it PM you when people comment on a tutorial (with an option to not recieve these PMs, if you edit said tut).
Cassius, it's a good idea, but given that a lot of people here don't seem to be able to figure out the current "confusing" boards I suspect it will be horribly mis-used? I was thinking about a private board, completely invisible to uninvited people, to avoid n00bism and where such things could be discussed.
Though along with Reno's idea they are certainly steps in a more mature map-making-website direction, things I'll certainly consider for the next version of SnarkPit ![]()

as long as its totally invisible lep, i know i am a prick sometimes, but my heart is in the right place most days, and i would feel really uncomfortable having a forum thats visible, yet only allows certain members access.. i mean, if its visible, it cries "elitism" to me.
i do however request that all warning message be in BOLD RED TEXT. if we (I) have to repeatedly warn people about their screw ups, then we (I) look like an asshole.. if the new people fail to read a bold red warning.. then its clear exactly whom is the problem.

I don't think it would be elitism. Like I say, casual users who come just to solve a particular editing problem or give us a download for their map would have no need for an extensive critiquing process, and I believe the board is going to have to adapt to that new dynamic. Most people coming by aren't going to be interested in sticking around for three or four years and getting every inch of their map scrutinized; the map forum, as I say, has two very different usages, and we should change based on that.
To be quite honest, the "Snarkpit Community" consists of about twenty or thirty people (at a very generous estimate) who check the site and make posts daily; it has been that way since I joined. We've always found it difficult to accept new people, as we expect quite a bit from someone for them to be part of that core community: we expect involvement, humility, honesty, etc., from people, and I think that scares a lot of people away.
It seems to me that an invite-only forum, if it were to appear right now, would solve a lot of things. Read the DM_Motel thread; it's a (painfully) clear example of how people just coming to show off their map and get passing comments about it get a rude awakening when faced with our standards. Not to say that anyone that posted in the thread was in the wrong - we have a perfect right to have high standards; that's the value of our community. It just shows that there is quite a rift between regulars and newcomers that scares a lot of newcomers away.
i have a request.. i would like to have the option of increasing my available PM totals.. i was gone for 5 days, and lost many important ones i wanted to keep, because they scrolled down to the bottom and were deleted..
its partly my own fault, because i failed to remove the nonessential ones before i left. but 50 is a rather small number for *ahem* someone of my caliber.. not to boast, but sometimes i get a fair few PM's and quite honestly.. i do not delete them all because some contain information i wish to retain semi-permanently.
would it be to much trouble, to set it so we can chose our own level of PM retention?

The gallery needs cleaned again, we have a few pictures that are not pictures of ourselves.
its been so long since i uploaded one of myself that i cannot really recall if it clearly states that only true images of ourselves are suited for the gallery.
perhaps, if it doesn't, it should.
basically, no one must upload a picture, but those who do, need to refrain from uploading bull crap.
