Very nice Nic, got a good atmosphere to it. I'd suggest breaking up that floor a little though, its a bit too repetitive compared to the rest of the scene...but if you are going for a really clean environment, then it could work in your favour to be honest. [addsig]

Looks neat Nic, could use alot more detail do to the fact.. there arent any textures and u can scale textures to 10099999 if u wanted to. (joking)

I would like to see some more work out of this.

**Return of the evil sig ------->

**EDIT** I fixed it

Ouch - you need to pick more complimentary colours - black red and green just aren't doing it for me! Makes me think very much of no_patience...any reason why orph? [addsig]

wouldn't know Duncan

actually, those 3 colors may not make a nice map, but they very much compliment each other in real settings..

notice next time, how many red/black cars or re/green ones you see

Well yes in real life they certainly work (red and green being a favourite christmas time combo), but I feel they are providing too much of an eclectic mixture here - they are too contrasting perhaps. I think if going for three colours, its wise to pick two quite different ones (such as cass's blue and white, or adam's black and white), and then pick one in the middle. Three entirely different colours looks too busy, or something. [addsig]

On a more serious note however, I think its nigh on impossible to get good results out of retexturing an existing map to be flatshaded. Flatshading is quite a different process to creating normal maps, as you need to rely entirely on brushwork to guide the player and provide detail. I think to be a success, a flatshaded map needs to be flatshaded from the off. [addsig]

i think the challenge worthy.. you would be surprised at the actual brushwork level in N_P..

yeah, i used custom textures the first go around, but i build each brush unique, i didn't rely on the texture to bring out the image i wanted to make..

anywho's the textures don't appeal to me as much as they did when i conceived those 3 colors.. tis why i mentioned "not set in stone"

but seriously, i don't want a black and white copy of other maps along this theme..

perhapes several shades of grey..

[edit] i think i will keep the new name though, it is two words more/less opposite of the originals..

No_Patience, Positive_Resistance

*sighs*..

well i like it :/

It is quite a cool name actually, however I do think you would be better of starting a new map with flatshading in mind, rather than reskinning N_P. Your call however, good luck if its the path you decide to take [addsig]

So are the entries going to be ran in RAD or just full bright. (I didn't see anything about it when I skimed the other posts).

This flat shade idea seems pretty interesting, I'm almost considring trying it out, even though nothing HL related exists on my pc at the molment (on back up CD's).

I never did finish the Forest (comp) map, my old mother board and ram was mostly to blame.

I run my map in RAD although achieve a fullbright effect by using Adam's suggestion of giving every texture a texture light value.

Anyway, in case you didn't notice, there are official contest rules on the news page and in the thread in the sticky section at the top of this forum. Your forest map would probably fit in as its a themed contest [addsig]

Ok, cool. Maybe I will. It doesn't need much work, I still remember everything left to tighty up.

digging those map ideas for the first page.

glad to see im not the only one to think up ideas like this.

grovvey stuff.

tried downloading that mario one the other day but...yuck too much to do to put it in and im lazy. hahahahahha

quess i will later.

but those maps on the front page are very very innovative.

my own map black will be themed based.

black and white main room and than grayscale followed by colored textures in the rest.

please let us know when they are done

Sounds like it could be tricky to get a good transition from black and white, to greyscale, to colour, but its a novel idea nonethless so good luck with it [addsig]

Hmmm I've been thinking a lot about your flatshading ways Reno... I'm gunna try making a map on friday (after my exam) but I'm not sure if its counted as flatshading really... it's a bit of a parculiar idea that got triggered by Hornpipes strange map. [addsig]
