Which leads me to the question, how long a sound effect can HL support? Come to think of it, what format exactly do sounds need to be. I know they need to be in wav files but what sample rate, and should they be mono or stereo? Any details would be appreciated. Come to think of it thats kinda an editing question...

I dont know the info ReNo, but my best guess would be to look at the original Half-Life music and sounds, that should give a fair indication.![]()

Jinx's Sound Pack <--- save/as on link, 5.86mb
Jinx's Sound Pack v2.0
12/26/03The sounds in this pack were assembled by me and formatted to work properly in Half-Life. This includes loop tags where appropriate. Feel free to use them for Half-Life maps, or for maps for other games, as long as you give appropriate credit in your text file.
I think I'm the only person to actually make a pack of sounds formatted for Half-Life. Not all were 'made' by me, though I did some formatting (added loops etc.) on all of them. They all have a 'prefix' on their filename, if you look at the readme it will tell you where they came from and who else you need to credit.
I think these two wavs will be useful to you:
a1_seagull.wav
jxwaves.wav
There are some good fire, water, and wind sounds in there too. The default HL water sounds are particularly horrible and should be replaced whenever possible imo.

Don't let the shoddy design of the webpage fool you - it's a wonderful resource for sounds. Of course you'll have to format them to Half-Life yourself, but that's relatively simple. ![]()

best to cut it down to 45 seconds at most or the filesize gets ridiculous
I get so pissed off when I download a map that's a huge zip just to find out some asshat has an entire song included, which accounts for 90% of the filesize, the other 10% being some piece of s**t map. But hey, it has KORN playing in the background so it must be cool?!?! ![]()
I'll take a look at that site Campaignjunkie, maybe there are some that would be useful for Action UT mappers in there bwahaha.
glad it was helpful, Reno!

as for default hl waterfall sounds, rocketflame1.wav beats them all hands down. unless your waterfall is more like a leaky tap in a cave.
