I might try and convert one of my unreleased FLF maps though as it seems FLF is a bit dead in the water at the moment, and especially with HL2 around the corner i'd like to give my maps at least half a chance before they're forgotton Adam Hawkins

You need a separate patition, one for windows/ your OS. and one for everything else you dont want to lose when you format.
I learnt this a few months back and boy has it helped me!

| I was just wondering, is 900-1000 rspeeds fine for this map? I want to do some things that will make my map have better atmosphere all around but I'd like to do it properly. |
1000 shouldn't hurt , sounds fine ![]()
I sure hope you guys like r_speeds... inferno is topping an insane number like.......
2657...![]()

I don't think the design is poor, but inferno is sporting some masively big rooms... It really only seems to happen in these "big rooms"... ![]()
I'm not slopilly mapping, I've taken great care to have no sawing brushes, or uneeded brushes (except for when I am absolutely forced to)![]()

If you say so. Those must be frigging huge rooms then.
Here's a screenshot of my map:

Nice, -- what is the map's name? What's the theme/setting?
Suggestion: This might not be a good idea, but maybe you should beef up the light values on your texture lights?

Reclamation - human base on Xen being retaken by the aliens
and the lighting's not done obviously, the first order of business in that picture is to get a darker light_env

when a mapper places these two sentences in the same phrase, its poor design.
you can map flawlessly, and still have no concept of design..
design takes ALL LIMITATIONS into account when constructing..
if it happens only in your big rooms, you designed it poorly cause the limits.... were exceeded.
sorry, but thats a sad fact..

(Am I the only one who got "page cannot be displayed" ???)
Ok. So it appears I jacked up my r_speeds by having rooms that have a little to much room in them... I would much rather though, try to finish a map that steps over... er, jumps over the boundaries of r_speeds rather than making a map that is nothing but corridors and small rooms all over.

yak just posted an example of a large room/area.
i am betting, since i know yak VERY well, that that room falls well within the limits.
are you trying to tell me that your idea is better somehow?
low r_speeds,can mean small areas, but not necessarily so...
be careful how you view mapping, or else all you will do is join the VERY LONG LIST of successful failures.. we have at least one famous failure here, who never did learn proper r_speeds maintenance
