| KungFuSquirrel would win. He's already the most famous person here and I'm willing to assume a considerable number of registerees here are due to knowing his famous household name. |
andrew is most popular, he is not our best IMO. his maps always lacked that certain element that made them best. no offense to andrew of course.
i am betting he would win 1st place, but there would be 9 other places to fill.
more opinions guys?

did we? , i didn't think so.. sure we alway brag on or preferred authors, but snarkpit has a large collection of maps.. high quality ones from little known authors. (little known as in, few releases, and mostly only here at the pit)
i wouldn't consider it arrogant yak, but i would question you wasting 2 whole votes on them
anyways.. it is my opinion that, our best maps were conceived through a group effort, by authors who realize you cannot make maps succeed on your own. an author who can apply ideas/comments/concepts from outside are the best.
being most popular, does not mean best.
anywho's.. i think this discussion warrants its own thread.. i may move it soon..

| There is no "best" in any non-measurable situation such as mapping, there is only most popular. I'd be for it, it could be done by having a top ten in your profile that you can edit via the control panel. Would be nice to be able to show or hide this on your profile by choice, but whether hidden or not it still contributes to the overall top ten stats. |
this idea, although good, would require effort on leps part to implement.. his workload seems above average ATM so i doubt it happening anytime soon... assuming he would do it at all.
best = entirely opinion
in order to say what best would be, you would have to examine your own priorities on how to define the term.. a concept no 2 individuals will totally agree upon.
also, in order to have such a contest (if contest is even the correct term) we would have to be mindful of other peoples feelings (IE i love andrews works, but feel he is not snarkpits best mapper) in order for me to say that, everyone would have to understand that i say it honestly and without intending harm.. i am sure that andrew knows this, but some of our newer members who have been here less, might not.
i do not totally measure "best mapper" with "final product" either, although currently my favorite map/maps are done/made by great authors.. i have some favorites made by people you may never have heard of as well.
how about we take this to another thread, this thread has been derailed long enuff.. the next person to reply, please begin a new thread..

if you people have enuff trust of me to keep the map to myself, i would like to get a head start on the reviews of these maps.. if you are sure its a finished map, and such, send me the links to them..
i don't want my reviews to look like critiques, so please be sure the map is completed beforehand.
those of you who would rather i not review your maps, please speak up now, cause i would rather not hurt any feelings later, especially my own since reviews and the pages thereof are extremely time consuming..
thanx

I too had a fair bit of trouble coming up with an idea I could run with and when I did, it was this weekend just gone, so that one won't be finished for the competition
I've had to use an older unreleased map instead, but I think its turned out pretty well - though my weapon placement leaves a lot to be desired
(I actually attempted it this time!). I'd forgotten how long it takes to do weapon placement...I was going a good 6 hours last night!
edit: thinking about it, I should probably get dm_pulse finished too - so that's me sorted for multiple entries ![]()

Some images in this post have been automatically down-sized, click on them to view the full sized versions:
i doubt that it would be finished before the deadline, but i'd started one that was intended to be a flat shaded *shudders* attempt at Escher's 'relativity'.
i didn't like the way that the fs surfaces blended together, making edges of stairs etc disappear, and i've been trying to find some sort of compromise. i've not tried detail textues over the flat shade, but not everyones system can render them, so i'm not sure if thats a good solution. anyways,
Eschers version-
my version (so far)
if i wanted to finish this with what i have in mind, i'd really need to spend a lot of time over the next two weeks working on it. even at that, two weeks would be a push.
