The site isn't working properly at the moment because it just got /.ed, but basically you get 500 megs of music downloads for $5, and you can choose the format/bitrate. The site is authorised with the Russian version of the RIAA, and has been running for a couple of years. It's only 'sort of' legal because technically your countries version of the RIAA needs to have an agreement with this site as well (unless parallel music importing is legal in your country), but the upside is that you won't get sued for downloading from this site, unlike with kazaa.

They just look to sue those who have a large mp3 collection. That's really all there is to it. The RIAA is only looking to scare people away to prevent sharing, so they will randomly target anyone in an effort to convince people that it isn't really worth it.
Course the RIAA is stupid, because if it wasn't for my new MP3 collection I wouldn't have been introduced to two whole genres of music and wouldn't have made my last thirty or so cd purchases. ![]()

I used to download music, but I tend to have m8s who have it on CD at uni, so theres no need to download. Often I only download to sample anyway, if I like 2 songs from the album I'll generally buy the album, otherwise I won't.
I like the hard copy of the CD with all the gubbinz. A mans CD collection says a lot about him as a person- if they are all pirated that says a lot ![]()

The bigger the collection, the more they're compensating for something
I've downloaded probably around 20-30 albums. I've told myself I won't download any more, and that I'll buy all of these albums in the shop once I can. It just isn't as good, really. [addsig]

Often in my case, I look at the CD in Much Music, and say, "Yea, I like that song, but I dont care for the other 12" so I'll download the one I want. Why pay for a CD when you only want one song?
Either way, when I do download, I store them in a non-shared folder. And yes, file sharing has also introduced me to alot of new music. In Flames, Kovonent, Deicide, Dido, etc.

Same for me, I downloaded 'Whisky In The Jar' by Metalica and a few days later I bought the album.

I dont buy CDs. Never have, and probably never will, just because I know I can get the songs I want for free, and CDs are too expensive for me anyway ![]()
