you gotta admit though, it would be a great year for gaming if it happened can i help it if i like games, few others do i figure, if you're going to do something wrong, you may as well do it right. |
Firaxis have already started compiling plans/ideas/user feedback for Civ 4 Orph, don't be too pessimistic
I can't wait personally for when it comes.. and number 3 is nearing its 4th year of life so it's about overdue for an update ![]()

Fallout 3 is in development Orph so you will no doubt find out more soon enough (though perhaps not at THIS e3), and HL2 is quite likely to make it out during this summer. Personally I think the only unlikely one in your list is Duke Number Forever...did you notice its intials are DNF?
Fallout 3 isn't in development anymore. It was cancelled a few months ago I believe. As for Civ 4, all they have to do is slap Alpha Centauri with a new engine and a few tweaks and its done... but I'm certain they'll f**k it up just like they f**ked up Civ 3.

*sighs*
why did you have to remind me how badly they messed up on civ 3 ![]()
i actually played civ II longer than any other game, if you were to talley up the total hours involved.. almost 3 solid years, uninterrupted by much.
civ 3 lost my allegiance, when a elite wooden ship, sunk my steel battle ship that had just came out of port.. the battle points vs. kill ratios were badly off in civ 3.
as for fallout 3, i didn't know till today, that it was even considered a possibility.. shame if you are correct yak..
IMO, alpha centauri was not as good, or in depth as civ II, i would not be happy if civ 4 were an alpha centauri 2

I believe that is an issue being addressed almost certainly Orph, well, you'd hope so the amount of people i've seen complaining about the ridiculousness of the combat calculator (sometimes)..
my example is losing 3/4 modern armour (all Vet) to 2 fortified Cavalry in a size 5 city... I got the city, but was still miffed and baffled to say the least ![]()
alpha centurai aint too bad.. i still think Civ 2:ToT and Civ 3 are the greatest instalments of the series.. but we could sit and debate that til the cows come home ![]()

AC was good except for the fact that it was way too easy and it had economic balance issues. I bought the last two wonders straight up and had like 10000 dollars left. ![]()
The problem with Civ3 wasn't just that the combat was screwy. I could mostly look past that, except when I'd lose a marine and tanks to a phalanx fortified in a jungle.
-The AI was beyond stupid.
One time I was in the early stages of modern times, with riflemen and tanks, and I went to war with China, who had nothing better than cavalry. They sent about 50 units against one town I had which was defended by a cannon and two riflemen, and I managed to kill them all but lose the city. They spent their entire army taking one city and then razing it, so I had to waste my time marching into their country unapposed and burning all their cities. That was a good plan on their part.
-It ran like crap
It was slow, took ages to finish turns for the AI, and was too bloated
-The horrible territory grabbing
Every time some civ built a town on one uncontrolled square in my territory I wanted to tear my hair out. Every time it became a race to colonize the tundra of a few worthless islands I just stopped playing.
Instead of wasting everyone's time they should make a Colonization 2. I'd be so happy! ![]()

Yak, according to my big Fallout fan flatmates, the third game got cancelled but has since be reannounced just a few weeks ago. EDIT: Here's the scoop... http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/04/15/news_6093628.html
RPG games have one drawback IMO, its their repetitive nature, early in any campaign.. kill, collect, sell, kill, collect,go up level,kill,collect,sell...
fallout lessened it in such a way, that it was less tedious.. leagues above diablo, and baulders gate.
i would be one happy camper if fallout 3 followed fallout 2.. the last release of fallout:tactics... sucked poopoo.
thanx for the heads up duncan.

For me, I was really hoping for a sequel to Phantom Crash (cool mech xbox game) to be announced, and lo and behold it has been!
Pity its on the bloody PS2!
I have a PS2, so its not that I can't get the game, its just the limitations that using the PS2 puts on the game. The screenshots that have been shown put it several steps behind the original in terms of graphical appeal
Thankfully they have added what most Phantom Crash fans seem to want - online multiplayer - but of course since PC was originally an xbox game, a lot of those fans might not be able to play the sequel.
Otherwise, I guess Halo 2 is shaping up nicely, though I never had any doubts that it would. Fable is looking like fun, and the new Gamecube Zelda game is looking excellent (though I DID love the cel-shaded style). I'm looking forward to hearing more from Square Enix about FFXII, FFVII:Before Crisis (even if it is a bloody modile phone game!), and FFVII: Advent Children. [addsig]

I read about it though, sounds quite promising, though there are plenty of FPS's out there as is, I'm normally more excited by something a little different. A Jet Set Radio sequel would be nice

AC had some cool features to it, like underwater bases and using terrain more. Always fun building a huge mountain to piss off the neighbours
That's why you get out there and take the resource and land grabbing to them
Also, cultural flips shouldn't be a problem if you manage to have a good core of cities with the Temple/Acqueduct/Colloseum/Marketplace improvements and at least a few luxury resources to share amongst the people. Topped off with your defending garrison, at least for "border cities" you cant fail to stay secure
Meh, anyway
aslo you only have yourself to blame if the AI refuses to trade anything with you ![]()
ReNo - it got moved to the PS2, i'd wager because the xbox is about as popular as syphillis
GTA San Andreas is being pimped as well, yummy
Hopefully it splices Vice Cities endless additions with the original GTA3's solid single player/plot
And one more for you - teh psp !http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2004/news/05/11/psp/psp_screen009.jpg
They seem to be lacking a few of the "flagship" titles of the PS series of consoles though, which could let it down.. although a metal gear game and GT4 should be plenty to draw people in. It looks shockingly like something old and crap, like a gamegear for instance ![]()
Edit.. heh - Taken from e3insider.com

Finally, in a show-stealing moment, a breathtaking trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker 2 was played. It featured a grown-up Link and a more edgy 3D environment and the sudden entrance of Shigeru Miyamoto complete with Link's shield and sword.
Looks like Nintendo are managing to steal the show, although i'm not surprised the DS looks fantastic, and they are still the original de-facto games company
(and the best
!)

As for the Zelda game, despite what the article says, its clearly NOT the Wind Waker 2. Its more akin to a sequel to Ocarina of Time, given the fact Epona (or some other horse) is in it and its grown up Link (not the unnamed hero of the wind waker) that you play. Nintendo did say they were making a sequel to the Wind Waker though - could that mean another Zelda game is yet to be announced? [addsig]
