Due to the recent misunderstanding it has become fairly important that we establish some sort of a compatibility for titles..

whether you agree that a certain title is representative of you or not is not the goal of this thread, titles are an important tools to use in text based communication.

yes we do have pricks, denying that is wrong, but the definition of the word is somewhat hazy, i refuse to acknowledge that its nearly as bad as some would indicate, but i do know that continuing the use of it when it has undesirable effects is stupid.

so the purpose of this thread.. i want to begin a database that will be compatible from both sides of the pond..

if you do not want to participate, that cool beaners, but don't try to misdirect this thread in such a way as to lessen its value to the pit.

if you don't wanna add to the thread in a constructive way, don't post, but if you do not post, you will have very little grounds to complain later when you are called a prick and failed to provide an alternative you can deal with instead.

titles exist, deal with them... and by all means don't be a prick

[edit] there are far more words here than you may realize.. i am assuming that the word "arse" does not refer to the opening of the rectum..

nah, it was a discussion to avoid misunderstandings.. a topic no one seems interested in, at least not until they are center stage..

the topic originated with the word "prick" ( but by no means is the sole issue or instance )

i used the word prick, i meant it one way, it was taken another, but i clarified my mistake, but the definition was not good enuff, and dismissed out of hand..

i can accept that local customs sometimes alter word definitions, what i cannot accept is when someone denies its a viable solution..

the definition was given, the very next sentence should have been "Oh sorry.. my bad, but over here its...(incert local definition here)"

i want to avoid the next occurrence, for anyone by creating an understanding in advance..

IMO the only thing worse than someone acting like an asshole, is denying you are.. but it would be nice to know for sure that if you are acting the part, it does not have another more preferable word..

anyways.. if no one wants to contribute, tis absolutely A OK.. but don't you dare get offended because you were ignorant later.

How about we not. I for one have a problem with you and other people using words like 'prick' in an attack on someone, it's the context you use it in Orph like I've said 3 times already, and couldn't care less if you were 'messing around' and called me an asswipe like you also sometimes do

Anyway, you might notice in all of this I haven't resorted to calling you names, despite getting severely on my nerves.

1) your context lacks a definition still.. you have yet to clarify how it is offensive, or as offensive as you are claiming it is.. by far asshole is worse.. and in all seriousness so is twat.

2) lets not keep Tally on how many times we get on each others nerves, cause i lost count well over 100

3) lets not, is perfectly fine with me, but i have absolutely no intention of not telling people exactly how i feel they are acting at any given moment, if the situation calls for it.

4) i hate using a numerical system for separate ideas, i think i will use the alphabet next time.

in all seriousness, if we of the pit got along to well.. it would not be a great site that it is..

for the record though, although the word prick was the catalyst for this topic, it was by no means a segregation attempt.. if i could have recalled some of jeffery's, or mikee's words he screwed up i would have used one of those..

Calling someone a "Moron" can be a grave insult - if the word is meant literally with intent to wound, whereas "Motherf**ker" (an emotive word if ever there was one) wouldn't necessarily offend if it was used by one friend to another. It depends entirely on the context.

There can't be many vulgar or offensive terms which aren't understood by most people in the English speaking world, just a few perhaps where there are slightly different shades of meaning - "prick" in the sense "pain in the arse" is a new one on me, I confess, but perfectly logical. In Britain, "bollocks" is a vulgar word for testicles first and foremost but is used in other ways to convey different ideas - One can "talk bollocks" (i.e. rubbish), "drop a bollock" or "make a complete bollocks of" (make a mistake) etc. In America, though, (correct me if I'm wrong) "bollix" isn't considered a vulgarity and is used more or less exclusively to mean break or botch - the original meaning forgotten or not generally known.

Anyway, you shouldn't be calling names. You bunch of Tossers.

I've never heard that before. are you sure it has a meaning in the US?

As for "prick" you've gotten me very curious. What does it mean if not "pain in the ass", or "arogant"?

is this all of the UK Dave, or just Ireland?

and TB more/less got the gist of it IMO as far as how Arkansas views the word.. annoying, troublesome, pain in the butt..

arrogant, is stretching it a bit, although most people who are pricks are arrogant too :/

Definately all of the UK at least...though we don't exactly go around referring to our genitalia as our prick on a daily basis [addsig]

if someone around here were to say, i have a big prick, we would all know it is his penis..

but the word is seldom used in the context to be as you are saying.. we would prolly say "dick head" or "dildo" or something along those lines..

but enuff of the prick, what are some other juicy tid-bit phrases?

What do you brits consider to be the most offenseive insult possible?

Maybe that's not such a fair question since I can't think of any particular one for the US, but anyway...?
