There is no absolute worst insult. The most offensive thing you ever hear could come from somebody who wasn't even trying to offend you. If I had spent ages painting (not that I paint) some portrait, and my friend came along and said (while not joking around) 'hey that looks good, what is it?', I would probably be more offended than if they came over and shouted some abuse at me.
If a lecturer that I respect said that I was lazy, this would upset me more than if some idiot I never saw before in my life said I was 'wearing a f**king stupid c**t of a hat'.

To me, the worst insults are ones that go against my own personal view of myself, and come from somebody who actually knows me, as this would have a lot of meaning. 'swear words' no longer have any real meaning or significance since every other 8-year-old started using them.

It's a mild term of abuse, now, but not always. It's an abbreviation of "sodomite" - similar to "bugger"

"Wino" = "Sot"

if the situation warranted it, thats one of my favored lines..

usually its I-dot though.. its a cross between idiot, and a person so stupid they cannot even dot their own I's when writing :/

Well "sod" is probably a reference to "sodomy" (the act of anal sex), though at least in Britain calling somebody a sod normally has absolutely no bearing on this (its normally used on somebody who is unlucky - "the poor sod"). [addsig]

Usually if some one does something mildy annoying I/we would call that persona dick head ro soemthing like that

i asked for a definition.. you stopped here.. you gave no further explanation.

lep on the other hand refused/ignored the request entirely, so it assumes he agrees with your explanation..

almost everyone else said some sort of definition along the lines of "annoying pain in the butt"

anywho's no one i know of would say "you are such a prick" and mean penis.. in spite of it having connotations meaning penis.

I think a lot of these terms have become generic insults, and no longer hold any meaning. Prick for instance, could mean penis or annoyance, but when most people say it they aren't thinking of what it means, just the effect of letting somebody know that they have something against them for some reason or another. Wanker is obviously suggesting you claim the person masturbates, which is hardly an insult in this day and age, yet it works as an effective insult on most people regardless.

I really think the meaning of most insults is irrelevant, its the manner in which they are used that is important. [addsig]
