I want to learn Japanese, but there are no such courses at my school, so I have to learn it some other way. Does anyone know of any good place where I can learn Japanese on the internet? With exercises and stuff like that. [addsig]

Korewa hon deska? Is this a book?

....and other such gems remain in my memory. Sadly almost all the rest is forgotten As for learning this language on the internet.....I don't know any sites, but I think it's going to be pretty challenging! I spent four years living in Japan and still couldn't speak the language well.

Then again, us Brits are well-known to be the worst linguists in Europe, so you may find it easier than I did.

I suggest you find a tutor if you're willing enough, learning the accent over the 'net would be hard. [addsig]

I just want to learn some basics until I can find a "sensei" who can learn me... I've heard that it's hard for people speaking Japanese all their lives learning to speak english properly and the other way around... [addsig]

Well, they are both incredibly (and sometimes unneccessarily) complex languages. It doesn't suprise me really. [addsig]

Go to a library, get a beginners course book with a tape, learn Japanese. My friend and I are learning Chinese this way, he a little more eagirly than me but still. If you want to learn Japanese this is not a impossible task. Oh btw, depending on how old you are you might wanna look forward to the university, Lund, Uppsala and G?teborg all have courses in Japanese.

The library is a good idea... I have to give it a try. And if I go to a university in Sweden then I'll probably go to a place where I can learn Japanese. But it would be nice to learn Japanses now and go to Japan and study instead , but it will probably be too hard to learn Japanese good enough in just a couple of years. It would be fun to go to Japan sometimes and to be able to understand anime and such stuff. [addsig]

My m8 at school learnt japanese. He was russian, teachers thought he was thick as s**t- he didn't wanna learn anything. When some Japanese people came to our school he was so motivated that he taught himself Japanese in about a year, with the aid of them for the accents and such. Quite amazing if you really have the will to do something. [addsig]

I can help you with some stuff, I've had 3 1/2 years of basic Japanese at school, have traveled there once before and have lots of reference information for stuff. [addsig]
