I never really got into the first game, but there's a nice and small 400mb demo to download just out of the sequel if you were a fan of it:

Downloaded it, won't run on anything under GeForce3, won't run on GeForce4mx, requires 64 megs video memory minimum. I'm not upgrading my graphics card until HL2 is out, so I couldn't play Semms a bit silly considering I can run FarCry and UT2k4 - what amazing things does this game do that those don't?

It has bloom But that's just a cheap trick to make lighting look more realistic ( they seemed to have improved the effect since DX: IW, seeing it doesn't make it look like the player needed glasses to see). I'ts running the same modified Unreal tech Deux Ex: Invisible War used, so it's very unoptimised. Still, it did run better than DX:IW, so I guess they're trying to make it user-friendly.

I played it, and it was good fun. It doesn't like Ati cards though (funnily enough, jut like DX:IW), so the lighting is often messed up, which makes judging where shadows are somewhat troublesome. Not as good as previous Thief games, but at least it's not the huge dissapointment I was expecting after Ion Storm dropped DX: IW on us.

[EDIT]: By the way, I can't seem to make a new paragraph without using the "p" tag. These tags also dissapear when you edit the post, so you have to type them again. [addsig]

Kage: Hit enter and you miss two lines, hit shift and enter and you miss one line. That's the easiest way of going about post layout

Not, that didn't work. That was the problem. Still doesn't work in fact.

Tried the demo. I agree about the shadows not really being prominent enough with the ATI card. Not really my bag though. Too much creeping/stealthing/puzzling IMO. Nice presentation, and looks good thats for sure.

Played the demo, holds up surprisingly well to the previous 2 games (I was expecting mass butchering of the story and gameplay) and is somewhat faithful, I suppose. I really recommend that everyone try out the demo - brings back great memories of Lord Bafford's estate. But the tutorial REALLY holds your hand (it has glowing footsteps to show you where to go, for crying out loud). Also, if you've played Thief before, don't play on anything lower on Hard. (Seems like they dumbed it down a bit).

Orph, the Thief series aren't RPGs, they are stealth games. Even if they WERE RPGs, comparing an FPS type to a turn based isometric RPG would be rather unfair - they are completely different. I'm not going to bother with it, I sort of enjoyed the second one, but not really my taste.

thief wasnt RPG?
hmm been a couple years i forgot..
duncan, i assign you to locate all my wrong posts today.. you already have a substantial head start, so it shouldn't be to much more trouble

still fallout 2 is an awesome RPG.. even if i compared it incorrectly, i liked it better than thief.. whatever its true designation. [addsig]

LOL Orph I don't have to correct you this time though, Fallout 2 was damn good, and I also preferred it to Thief
