The new Spitalfield album "Stop Doing Bad Things" arrived today. Fairly
solid rock offering thats quite reminiscent of the more upbeat Foo
Fighters songs, though unfortunately the best tracks are probably the
ones I'd already heard ("Gold Dust vs. State of Illinois" and "Tampa
Bum Blues" stand out in my opinion). Then again, its fairly normal for
tracks you are familiar with to appear to be the best - I'll need to
give it a bit more listening to let the other tracks settle in. Most of
the songs feel quite different to those on their last album "Remember
Right Now"; for better or worse I've not yet decided.

Just got "Don't Believe the Truth" by Oasis. Not overly impressed I'm
afraid, and I reckon it suffered from the same syndrome as U2's "How to
Dismantle an Atmoic Bomb" - namely the
If-it-was-a-debut-it-would-be-a-good-album-syndrome. I expected better
from Oasis. Some tracks are great - Turn Up the Sun, Guess God Thinks
I'm Abel and Part of the Queue are all great tracks, but it seems like
the whole track is made up of the tracks of the sort of quality you
would expect from bonus tracks on an album.

There's this band called Porcupine Tree that's been getting a smidgen of play on the rock stations around here. I enjoy the lead single, "Shallow," and preliminary research efforts have shown them to be a band with a considerable history. Anyone here know anything about these guys?

This post finally got me off my ass to pick up I Am The Movie. Awesome CD. Can't wait to snag the new one.
Also will need to snag their split with Matchbook Romance. Matchbook Romance also rocks.
Got the new Starting Line CD a couple weeks ago, too... good stuff there. Pulley's most recent kicks some serious ass as well.

these four streaming
tracks make me want the new Motion City Soundtrack album very
very much. Hugely upbeat and danceable pop rock with a bit of the
familiar synth in the background that fans of The Get Up Kids, The
Anniversary and Koufax will appreciate. It really strikes me as
universally likeable - I just don't see anything about this music that
people wouldn't like. If you like any sort of rock music, its
well worth a listen.

The only matchbook romance I have is "my eyes burn." I think that's by them. Anything else that's good?

My Eyes Burn is definitely one of my favorites of theirs.
" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> The entire Stories and Alibis CD is really good, but that one, Promise, and Stay Tonight are also right up there if you ask me.
Reno - I'm just listening to those new MCS tracks... holy crap! great stuff.

Andrew, isn't the MCS/MB20 split mostly made up of tracks from both the
bands' albums? I remember looking at it and deciding it wasn't really
worth it, even though both bands are pretty good. MB20 are a bit
repetitive in my opinion, but I am pretty keen on the Stories and
Alibis album. I think my favourites are probably "Lovers and Liars" and
"Playing for Keeps", but to me most of the tracks don't give you much
to pick and choose from.
Glad I reminded you of MCS, great band

Just picked up my copy of the Motion City Soundtrack album on the way home. I've had it written on the back of my hand all week and finally remembered to get it today " SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">
And ReNo, do you mean Matchbook Romance or Matchbox 20 with the MB20 bit? " SRC="images/smiles/icon_wink.gif">
