Herbie Hanc**k - Rockit (sorry, that's his actual artist name ...)
Are you apologizing for him being named Hanc**k? It's not that odd a last name. In fact, the first person to sign our Declaration of Independence was named John Hanc**k. He signed his name really big and ever since, the phrase "John Hanc**k" has been used to mean a signature. For example, it would not be improper at all for a UPS deliveryman to ask for my John Hanc**k when handing me his package.

Depends what package he's handing you. :o I had a teacher named Hanc**k too, it's not really a problem unless it devolves into Handc**k... ANYWAY.

Ben Folds - Songs For Silverman: Got it for the tribute song to Elliott Smith, which is f'kin amazing, and the rest's not too shabby... Late + Landed = two best songs, definitely.

Garbage - Bleed Like Me: I like Garbage, so naturally I liked this CD too? Yeah.

Spoon - Gimme Fiction: More good spoonage.

Yeah, I did kind of overplay the innuendo there.

Is this album actually any good? Beautifulgarbage was pretty much a terrible album showing what happens when a band has no clue what they're doing anymore and so I'm a little hesitant about Bleed Like Me, especially due to the complete lack of airplay it received.

It is actually pretty good (in my opinion). I didn't like much more than a few songs on Beautiful Garbage, either... try "Bad Boyfriend" or perhaps "Sex Is Not The Enemy," those are at least decent tracks.

TeeBee - Live at Synergetic bootleg. Anyone else listen to that? I'm starting to like Drum and Bass a lot more after hearing it.

Yay 311! Me and my only 311 lovin' mate went to see them play their first scottish gig in Glasgow a couple of years ago, and I reckon everybody else in the small crowd was there for the support bands <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif"> Regardless, we had a great time <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Rival, grab yourself "Don't Stay Home", "8.16am", and "Omaha Stylee"; three very good but quite different 311 tunes. One of my favourite things about the band is that they mix so many different styles - reggae, rock, funk, rap, and sometimes even a little more. Oh and if you do get "Omaha Stylee", give it a chance, because it has a somewhat long intro part that is NOT indicative of the actual song!

If you want to look into some japanese bands, I have a few I can suggest...

If you like ska, big band style music with lots of brass, or just anything upbeat really, try out Scafull King, who have a knack to make EVERYBODY smile. Some good tunes to try by them are "Good and Bad", "You and I Walk and Smile", "Needless Matters" and "We are the World". Quite frankly though, everything I've heard by that band is freaking awesome. If only I could buy their CD's from, well, ANYWHERE.

A somewhat more orthodox ska outfit from Japan are Kemuri. Once again they are a hugely positive band from what I've heard - music designed to make you happy. "Heart Beat", "PMA", and "Givin' Up" are all pretty rockin tunes, but if you hate the likes of Reel Big Fish or Less Than Jake, you won't find much to like here I don't imagine.

Home Made Kazoku are a sort of rap/rock Japanese band I heard doing an anime ending song, and it really set me up for the summer. This is sunny music <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> "Arigatou" was the song I heard and is probably my favourite by them, "Summer Time Magic" is like a Japanese version of Will Smith, while "Mr. Tough Guy" is a little darker fast paced rap/rock.

Another anime related find is "Orange Range", who I believe are pretty popular in Japan. "Asterisk", the intro song for an anime called "Bleach", is another rap/rock style tune that in my opinion develops in quite interesting ways. Another song "Viva Rock" that I think is by them was one of the Naruto intros or endings, and while it is cheesy as hell, if you are looking for something a bit different (and if you are looking to Japan for music, it seems you are!) give it a whirl <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

Hope some of that was useful to you!

Don't forget "Flowing" by 311. And I guess you may want to check out "Come Original" which is there most popular song. "Amber" is pretty good too... although very mellow.

The only Japanese band I could recommend is The Pillows... they've got some real crapfests of songs, but "Ride on Shooting Star" is good... if I'm thinking of the right song.

Got -> Ben Folds Five - Whatever And Ever Amen... good CD! Brick's like a radio classic, probably the only reason I'd heard of Ben Fold, hadn't heard it for years... good times.

I do beleive you are right there Rival. Radiohead have redifed the way tou play rock music and quite frankly are as origional as they come.

I've been listening to the Chemical Brothers and quite frankly its like nothing on Earth, i always thought that the Chemical Brothers were just Dance crazed computer nerds who tried to be cool by shoving vast quantities of drugs up their noses. When you actually listen to them you find that there is no other music quite like it. Anyone can pick up a guitar and rock the house down but no-one can make music like the chemical brothers.

I think you can get much better than U2. Everything about that band makes me angry. Then I listen to AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, the Grateful Dead, Freak Kitchen, Iron Maiden, Metallica, the Used, Coheed in Cambria, and Marilyn Manson until I forget about them.
