It didn't really strike me as either, indie's got a pretty distinctive style (in theory). But I guess there's some people who call Bloc Party indie too so what can you do... make a new sub-genre! Yay! Nu-indie.

As far as I'm concerned music is music. I can't keep up with all the labels. If it's good I listent o it. If not I don't.

I agree with Spartan on that one.
Two albums I've recently got and listened to:
Kick - White Rose Movement
Meds - Placebo
Both pretty good and worth listening to, although they have their fair share of both good and bad tracks.

Yeah, it might be awkward to try and pidgeon hole bands into genres, but if we didn't do any sort of grouping/segmenting, then it would be hideous trying to find music we might like. Genres and comparisons with other groups help suggest to people what to expect and whether listening is worth their time. Music being "good" or "bad" is hardly enough of an indicator when musical taste is so subjective after all.

In recent years a thousand new little genres popped out of nowhere simply because bands started mixing styles without caring about genre limits. This is all nice and ok but often a new genre is created for a single band and later the name is used for other bands that are completely different and actually require another (new) genre name. To be honest, I prefere describing a band by comparing it to others. It's often the only way of defining a genre anyway.

I'd say that almost everything seems to be described as "Alternative" these days, which I suppose is fair enough, but you do start to wonder: an alternative to what?

listened (listening to in fact) the swedish duo The Knife. very good electronica/dance. i find it much better then traditional dancce as a lot of the songs have much more vocals.one of Jose Gonzalez's songs (heartbeat) is a cover from this duo. recommend someone checks them out, no one i know has heard of them

Tool's new album, 10,000 Days. It's bitchin'... a little weird at points, but definitely Tool and definitely bitchin'. I like track 10, "Right In Two" the most I'd have to say, it comes in third on my favorites, right after Ticks And Leeches and Schism.
Also select songs from other Tool albums, mostly from Lateralus (which IMO is the best Tool album).
Went to see NIN March 24th, was pretty sweet but would have been better with either better seats or general admission.

"10,000 Days" is their most political album yet (man, that name sucks, but it's a good album). I don't think "Lateralus" was their best stuff though, even though I love that mathematically induced album.
Blame it on Microsoft, God does.

Thanks Crono, I didn't have all my Tool CDs on my computer, but I had been content listening to what I had... until your comment. I'd still say I like Lateralus the most, but I had forgotten how great Undertow and Aenima are.

Also, I do have to say though, Lateralis is one of my favorite songs from them. If you haven't seen the video of Danny Carey recording the last minute of that song, go over to YouTube.com and check it out. Crazyness.
