I was walking down the street last night and I heard this really catchy song being blasted out of this music store. So I went in, listened some more, and bought the CD. It's a Chinese rock CD by this guy called "X.T.X"
I don't know anything about him, and I haven't had a chance to play the CD here in my room yet, but from what I heard in the store his stuff sounded like a mix between Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, and maybe a little bit of the Strokes too.
Interesting combination if you ask me. Have any of you heard of him?
Apparently he's opening for "Placebo" here in Beijing next month, but I'll be home by then.
Edit: I did some googling, and I came up with this interview, which I think was a nice background on him and his band: http://www.chinastic.com/wp/reviews/?p=16
I was kinda glad I pegged the similarities to Nirvana " SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">
His website is here: http://www.xietianxiao.com/

I'll throw in a recommendation that I don't think has been mentioned: Joanna Newsom (needed more female singers in this thread, too)
from someone on rateyourmusic.com (this site wastes too much of my f***ing time):
So probably not for everyone, but when you're in the mood...

The only Rx Bandits song I've ever heard is the one that goes...
"Your love is my infection"
"this empty needle is my unsharpened sword, I stab I stab I stab, but I can't puncture"
Yeah, so I guess it's called "infection." The last time I listend to that song I was 18, so I'm a little surprised I can still remember the lyrics right off the bat like this.
Which album should I check out? Progress?

Try out the media player on their website if you haven't already - the 5 songs there paint a pretty good picture of what they are like, and all are from their most recent 2 albums. Infection was the last song on "Progress", by the way, and while a good song and a perfect end to the album, it isn't one of their best for me.
Gah, you know what? Check out any of their most recent 3 albums, they all rock.

That man made his guitar sing unlike anyone before or since. I don't think I could ever pick a single favorite song. Despite that, one of the songs I enjoy listening to most is an alternate version of Angel containing no instruments other than Jimi's guitar and his voice. It's really relaxing to listen to.

I like Trivium too but they seem to be morphing into Metallica part2 imo (no bad thing by any means).
