Got Billy Talent 2 and acquired the complete Black Sabbath Boxed Set with like 9 discs and they're both awesome. Billy Talent sounds a bit different than their first album, but it's a good sound. And Sabbath just rocks.

My favourite is Joker and the Thief. Check that out, Love Train, and White Unicorn. That should pretty much introduce you to them.

I was walking down the street last night and I heard this really catchy song being blasted out of this music store. So I went in, listened some more, and bought the CD. It's a Chinese rock CD by this guy called "X.T.X"

I don't know anything about him, and I haven't had a chance to play the CD here in my room yet, but from what I heard in the store his stuff sounded like a mix between Nirvana, Rage Against the Machine, and maybe a little bit of the Strokes too.

Interesting combination if you ask me. Have any of you heard of him?

Apparently he's opening for "Placebo" here in Beijing next month, but I'll be home by then.

Edit: I did some googling, and I came up with this interview, which I think was a nice background on him and his band: http://www.chinastic.com/wp/reviews/?p=16

I was kinda glad I pegged the similarities to Nirvana <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif">

His website is here: http://www.xietianxiao.com/

You guys throw out a variety of recommendations <img src=" SRC="images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"> The fact that My Morning Jacket played Boneroo combined with the fact that someone who went to Boneroo thought they were the best band there just weirds me out. Always thought of it as a jam band/alternative fest.. although I guess My Morning Jacket pretty much are alternative...

I'll throw in a recommendation that I don't think has been mentioned: Joanna Newsom (needed more female singers in this thread, too)

from someone on rateyourmusic.com (this site wastes too much of my f***ing time):

? quote:
Joanna Newsom sounds like a pre-pubescent Elf guarding a secret magic lair high in the misty mountains with access to a harp and a thesaurus. Okay? Okay ... be warned.

So probably not for everyone, but when you're in the mood...

Bought the new Rx Bandits album "...And The Battle Begun" direct from them, as until next month or something that is the only way to get ahold of it. I'm a big fan of the band and have all 4 of their fairly wildly varied albums, and the only disappointing thing about this one is that it isn't the massive progression that each of their last albums was. After starting out as a fairly typical ska-punk outfit, their beautifully titled album "Progress" saw them change their sound into a fairly unique blend of reggae, ska, rock, punk, and metal. "Resignation" continued this, and was their strongest album and most refined sound yet IMO, though pretty much threw ska out the window. This new album sounds, for all intents and purposes, like Resignation mark 2. Now, that really shouldn't be taken as a negative remark about the album - I guess a band can't continue to change from each album to the next, and it seems Rx Bandits have settled into their own sound now. You can listen to 3 of their new songs and a couple off their last album on their website at http://www.rxbandits.com if you want a taste of what they play.

The only Rx Bandits song I've ever heard is the one that goes...

"Your love is my infection"

"this empty needle is my unsharpened sword, I stab I stab I stab, but I can't puncture"

Yeah, so I guess it's called "infection." The last time I listend to that song I was 18, so I'm a little surprised I can still remember the lyrics right off the bat like this.

Which album should I check out? Progress?

All 4 are good albums in their own right, and I guess which is "best" would be determined by your preference in genre rather than their musical ability improving or anything. My favourite is probably "The Resignation" - the opening track "Sell You Beautiful" is one of their best songs and really sets it up nicely, and though there are a couple of tracks on there that aren't amongst my favourites, its their most distinctive and memorable album for me. Their new album is only available from their website and I've not quite listened to it enough to say if it is as good as The Resignation, but it certainly isn't too far behind. I'd say try out either "The Resignation" or "...And The Battle Begun" over their first two, but if you want something a bit more ska and a bit less...erratic (their recent songs have many changes in beat throughout), maybe their first two albums are a better choice.

Try out the media player on their website if you haven't already - the 5 songs there paint a pretty good picture of what they are like, and all are from their most recent 2 albums. Infection was the last song on "Progress", by the way, and while a good song and a perfect end to the album, it isn't one of their best for me.

Gah, you know what? Check out any of their most recent 3 albums, they all rock.

Jimi Hendrix.

That man made his guitar sing unlike anyone before or since. I don't think I could ever pick a single favorite song. Despite that, one of the songs I enjoy listening to most is an alternate version of Angel containing no instruments other than Jimi's guitar and his voice. It's really relaxing to listen to.

My favorite band is trivium. Their first 2 cds are simply screaming metal, but some of the best guitar work from 20 year olds ever. The new cd is soundsing amazing, no longer screaming and a jump towards the older metal I feel that trivium will be well known in only s a matter oftime.margin=2 leftmargin=2>
