as i travel i tend to find places where either the music sucks, or there aren't any stations at all.. so i tend to buy audio books to listen to..

this run i found a doozy, it was about this guy.

most of you would either find it boring, or just plain crap, but i found it very interesting, if not a bit informative.. this guy had a rough life, and yet managed to do wonders..

anyways, if anyone would care to *taboo* give me a PM..

the Americans here, may not find it as interesting as the Brits, but if you have any geology courses in school, i would recommend writing to me..

Jon, really, really, really, stupid question.

Whats an audio book? Is that one of those kid books with a read-along tape?

an audio book is a rendition of a book that is read out loud and put on either tape, or cd.

some are abridged, some are full length..

this one is full length..

[edit]

try this link

i am unsure as to if you will need to save target as, or just click the link, but the file is 8+ megs so..

anyways, i am gonna test it on my other comp to see if it even plays.

this is track #1

[edit #2]

save target "AS"

funny, i didn't really expect anyone to actually want the audio book, but i did expect a little more fanfare..

at least from the UK voices among us..still your loss, is my gain i suppose.. this guy, rewrote the 7 day creation theory, in a time when they burned you for such.. he actually got some of the churches to change "DAYS" to "EVENTS" anyways, i was glad i bought it..

theres far too much in UK history to even begin scraping the surface of every single character also, i dont particuarly have an interest in geology

i'll give it a miss methinks, but kudos for finding it. in fact, how on earth did you find it?

(when i am in the car (i dont drive) or have command of the radio station, i always listen to Radio 4 - plays, discussions, comedies, profiles, gardening, cooking.. the "intellectual" radio station. i imagine you would enjoy it if you can get along with this kind of thing Orph, shame the BBC don't export it to the US )

I convinced my mother the other day to order America (The Book) AND the audio book for me. Score one victory for whiners! Anyways, I listened to a sample of the audio book and it was great - however, it's unexplored territory for me. I usually prefer actual books instead, since I like to read faster and skip around. Maybe this will start a love for audio books? Who knows.

Audio books are as good as the voice actor who reads them.

Imagine listening to Ben Stein read "The Grapes of Wrath".
That's like taking 614 or 464 cyanide pills, it depends on which copy he reads. [addsig]

imagine these voices

David Attenborough
Alfred Hitchc**k
Fran Drescher

/me feels woozy now..

but definitely, the reader makes the audio book.

I'm banned from my school liberry.

They no longer allow me in to the library situated within my school.

I set a book on fire in the bookshelf and someone ratted me out. I denied everything, and in the end they just decided nt to let me in there unless its during and with a class of mine. [addsig]

i was banned from my library in secondary school for setting up a gambling ring, where people betted their lunch money.

hilarity. it only happened because the wench in charge hated us, for no apparent reason.

No offence meant, but you deserved to be banned for that, its a pretty s**tty thing to do.

That's not true, Orph. There ARE bad books out there. Come on, are you telling me that a book deserves more respect then any other form of entertainment?

How would trashing a crappy book physically be any different from trashing a crappy movie?
Because you think it's a forgotten form of entertainment? Or books should be read more? Because, those aren't very good reasons ... why would you use reasons like that?

JUST A NOTE, SINCE SOMEONE ELSE GOT PISSY ABOUT MY COMMENTS EARLIER TODAY. I AM JOKING.

But, you shouldn't be killed for burning a book ... especially if the books sucks donkey nuts. Like Desperation by Stephen King ... goddamn, I'll torch that book any day, use it for fire-fuel or something.

You're probably referring to the whole, parents burning Huck Fin and stuff in the 60s (?). Which is fine. But books are just another form of media and entertainment, no better or worse then the others. Now saying you like books more is an entirly different situation. [addsig]

my beliefs system has not made me particularly famous around here crono

i think, every book is sacred, even ones i would never consider reading.. in other words, i wouldn't toss one in the dirt just cause its s**t..

punishable by death is just a saying around here, denoting you are serious, and not jesting.. it doesn't mean to kill the offender.

if i were t see someone deliberately defiling a book, i would prolly go off on them..

No it was some stupid book that was about programming macintosh hardware. The macintoshes had really pissed me off that day by deleting my great flash movie so I went and burned book by them. [addsig]

Mother f**ker. Mac's have awesome hardware.

Orph, I know you're not being serious about killing people... But you didn't answer my question, I asked why, not for a confirmation of what I observed. [addsig]
