I wonder what the coders and the modelers see.  Lines of codes for the former and polys on their friends for the ladder perhaps.

I see classes where any sort of manufactured object is present (class pen: public plastic, ink {...), and I don't see the matrix. I try and work out RBG hex values when I see a painting, and wonder what sort of video card would be needed to render whatever scene I'm looking at. Whenever anything does anything I unconsciously think of exactly how it would work in assembler, and I daydream about how the Half-Life teleportation system would work if it was real (I reckon it's some sort of displacement field effect).

I get it too. my friends think I'm crazy, because sometimes my mapping thoughts are out loud. you know like "wow, this would make a great DM, but the r's...." you get the idea.

I think most maps are probably inspired by real would places, but in general, rendering a real environment does not make for a good map. real buildings are too cramped, have too many dead ends, are too boring. the firest map I ever did was one of my house. it's fun to play on my home lan, because everyone recognizes the setting and enjoys it, but honestly, the gameplay isn't great.

unless you are admitting that GMDM2 was "conceived" <--- excuse the pun .... in your throes of masturbation, and that you are admitting to a 4 year orgasm, i doubt very much you and i are talking about the same thing

(read between the lines of my post silly)

Same here. I map and model and I keep wandering around thinking to myself, 'Damn, that would be ace in TS, you could dive off that and into there, hmm r_speeds would be hell though, maybe if I moved THAT pillar over THERE' and so and so for forth. I've been mapping for ages on and off, but over the last year I've been doing it on a fairly constant basis. Now I've gone off on a modelling spree I keep seeing things and wondering what would be the best way to retain the shape of an object whilst keeping the plys low. I spent 5 minutes starting at the bonnet of a Sierra the other day overlaying triangles onto it in my brain.

I keep wishing I had a digi cam to take photos, 'cos I have a terrible memory. The lecture hall in Fauclty is very similar indeed to the one I used throughout most of last year in uni, right down to the textures and the tables at the bottom. Last time I was in there I had a terrible urge to dive off of the top level firing at an imaginary person who was hiding behid the lectern.

I think I might be playing that game a little too much.

My first map for half life 2 ? hmm, a box, 4012 units wide, deep and tall, with the buggy that has the mounted machine gun. Hey, I could call it ... a ' kill box '

(on the topic)

Personally I don't see lines and grids and what not, I could, and have at times (To figure out how to translate it to 3-d) but I focus on grapsing the essence of things, what is it that makes something as it is, what is most important about its features, break it down and disect it.

To see, identify, describe and recreate, SIDR or "cider", by focusing on the essence you arn't limiting what medium your experiences can be translated to.

i think, since its virtually impossible to make a decent killbox map anyways, that someone should redefine the concept of "killbox"

why not create a map, that has boxes in it that kill when varying methods are employed... some detonate with bullets, some like proximity mines.. some delayed fuses, and others you can pick up and toss at people..

that would be much more fun than some mindless box full of items with the same name..

only stupid, or limited intelligence people derive pleasure from traditionally made killbox maps..

you may need to understand, its in definition..

my idea .. killbox = hollow cube with scattering of ramps or lifts..

others may deem an arena a killbox, i do not..

if a map consists of more items than solids its prolly a killbox and its s**t..

arenas are not killboxes.. still if you are in doubt, we could post some pics of what is or is not a killbox..

but in the end.. killbox = stupid
