well the actual purpose of the rating system is a matter of opinion ATM, personally, i use it to rate how i feel the person has contributed to snarkpit.. if someone is new, i give them the benefit of the doubt and score everyone a 3 till they prove themselves otherwise..
some people use the rating system as an extension of their overall mapping skills.. but IMO, since snarkpit is more than the sum of its mappers, i feel this is cheating those yet to prove their mettle in a map..
we have two systems.. one is this one we are discussing, the other is upon individual releases of maps..
personally i think its a shame if people don't use the system.. new members can use it to get a general feel for whom is what..
anyways.. if you ask around, you are liable to get 1/2 a dozen opinions on how the rating system works, and its general purposes..
best advice.. use your own judgment ![]()

if by some small chance you are talking to me.. rugal harassed me for almost 3 days prior to his being banned.. the fact that i kept it quiet should prove i am not a basher.. i hope he never returns, but if he does get another chance, it won't be without a lengthy probationary period.. in fact no one but lep, gwil and i knew the extent of the events leading up to his departure.. so i hope you are talking to someone else, cause it would be a bit upsetting to think otherwise.. :/ |
I've been around, seen his antics, seen the excuses, I'm quite frankly amazed it didn't happen sooner. I saw how the same stuff was done to the TriF mod (that I currently work for) and he was on the team a few months before I, but it ended in a spam-fest/anger sentiment.

1337 speek or whatever you call it looks like aol talk, and doesn't say much about ones intelligence. I couldn't realy follow the thread, so i thought I'd just go ahead and point that out. I'll make up for the waste of space by putting my favorite smiley. |
Oi, how dare you compare 1337 speek to "AOL user grammar mistakes"!
The history behind 1337 speek (better known as hax0rspeak) is far more elegant, intriguing and exciting!
Every computer user has been blessed by the gift of hax0rspeak, it is our true herritage. That doesn't mean we should speak it all the time (" |)|_||)3 1 |2 1337 |-|4><0|2 "), because nowadays there isn't much use for it. But it also doesn't mean we should just forget about it. Activities like this (paying attention to anything that spells out 1337) make sure that the times of hax0rspeak will not be forgotten.
Little quote from PQ (PlanetQuake)
| ? quote: |
It's time that hax0r speakers got a brief history lesson. Hax0rspeak dates back to the BBS days, when The Man was still capable of finding people who threatened Very Bad Things on the pre-Internet. Authorities and admins would run tracker programs on message boards, searching for code words such as "hacking" and "porn" that would tip them off to illegal activity. To circumvent this, netizens began using ASCII code to type the words that would be easily tracked, such as "hax0r" for hacking and "pr0n" for porn. So, back in the day, it actually was cool to use hax0rspeak. Well, times have changed. Most of the people that originated the activity have moved on. Those that still partake in these activities have safe havens where they can talk more safely; a tracker nowadays would have difficulty finding "true" illegal activity amongst all the crap that's out on the net. But another group has picked up the hax0rspeak trait. In hopes of attaining that image of the cool hacker that "sticks it to Da Man," these players have adopted the ancient language. The problem is, other people automatically know they're not actually hackers, because hackers don't talk like that anymore. |

| God Damn it. Even when Im not around anymore you dicks continue to f**king bash me. Give it a rest already. Do you miss me that much? and gorb. I left that mod because of the retarded mapping restrictions they had, good thing I did or I would never be where I am today. At least im in a mapping team of a decent mod unlike your sorry ass. Make sure your statements are accurate next time you decide to talk about me alright? |
Don't be too friendly there. Restrictions? I've had nothing of the sort. Honestly...if you didn't care that people bashed you, and you had left for good...why do you still respond? You contradict everything you say. And I like how you personally attack me, it's a nice touch, shows what kind of person you are without me having to ask.

I'm aware of its history. First off, crackers are not hackers. Crackers breakthings; hackers build things. Breaking into a computer doesn't make you a hacker, it makes you a cracker and more often then not a script kiddie. A hacker is the mastery of computers. Starting out specifically meaning programming, but it's grewn to include networking, security and the likes. Just because it has bean around a while doesn't make it cool. Live long 'n' prosper
conquest
p.s For a more detaild clue, read long term hacker, Eric S Raymond's artical, "How to be a Hacker" http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/hacker-howto.html For the mod's, just to note, there is nothing illegal there. As I said, hacking is nothing illegal. Just the media keeps getting it confused, and all the little script kiddies love to all themselves hackers
