Son acquired this game today.

tis supposed to use the HL2 engine.. perhaps it can contribute to some quality maps.

Apparently it's very, very buggy. I should be borrowing it soon, I've heard pretty good stuff about it.

Can you say 'thanks for the textures'?

Vampires are gay. Werewolves are much much cooler.

My flatmate bought it and says it has some really cool scenes in it, well scripted and directed. Unforunately he says the action is pretty lame and it doesn't take advantage of the source engine like HL2 does. He is a fan of the V:TM role playing thing, so I think it appeals more to him than me.

took 3 days to get but he seems to like the game. to me it seems sluggish, like it takes a bit more power to run than HL2 does.. plus its not my genre of choice so i doubt i'll play it.

2.2 gig downloads are not something i wanna do often either.

Leave it to Orph to complain that warez'ed games should be easier to download

I've seen a lot of demos and it looked cool. I'll probably get it in a couple months since HL2 is keeping me busy now anyway.

hold up a second poop chute. i download 100's of gigs a year, you think i'm gonna complain about size?

all i said was, dedicating so much time/bandwidth takes away from my more important download choices.. this was my son's idea. i did mention that its not my choice of genre though, so i suppose that could be a complaint of a sort but by no means size in or of itself.

and 3 days on a 2.2 gig download is pretty snazzy considering.

so you just roll those baby blues at someone else big guy

The game is pretty cool so far - though it doesn't feel like its using the Source engine at all - maybe it's just me but it feels more like the Quake II engine. It has that same chunkiness about it - and the same lame shiny surfaces that Soldier Of Fortune had

Also, the performance of the game is shocking - any of the outdoor areas slow my computer down badly, while indoors it's as smooth as silk.

The consistency of level design seems off too - some parts are really well done, while others feel a little cobbled together.

Like I said though, the game plays well enough, just a shame the graphics couldn't match up.

The game doesn't look like it was made with the source engine at all.

That's because it isn't It has the Havok 2 physics engine. That's all they said was in the game at E3 when they had all those screen shots and movies. [addsig]

err... buh?

Vampire is built on the Source Engine. Troika has connections to Valve and thus were able to get the engine licensed before any other third party developers some time ago. Havok is -only- a physics engine, which was also licensed for HL2/Source. [addsig]

I know the difference, I just remember them saying it had the havok engine for physics. But they probably used the entire source engine. [addsig]

Nope. I heard it a long time ago. About when HL2 was suppose to come out. Maybe I only heard half the story. [addsig]

Yep, it got held up for a while while HL2 was in limbo. Bad situation to be in. Hold it off longer and get people upset, or release it in the midst of the holiday season and probably lose sales.

Gotta snag that one from the company store here next order I make... probably monday. Hooray! [addsig]

I purchesed it 2 days ago, been playing it since. It's a bit choppy and buggy, yet I would say it's one of the best rpg/fps i've played. =] Runs fine on my pc but does need a better pc than hl2 would.
