i agree wholeheartedly, orph. i played tfc a little when i first bought condition zero, and i didnt really like it. but i guess that wasnt during its hay-day was it? oh well, if i could choose what this "surprise" would be, HL2DM would be it... well maybe the full SDK, but only so the mod teams could finish with their versions of HL2DM. im tired of waiting. this is taking too long. its like giving a starving person a dried-up bone to chew on... cruel.

/edit
but then again im discontented in general...

The full SDK is definately coming next week, so the surprise for the community that is coming with it is definately something else.

Although I hope the surprise is HLDM, (I'm sure they have noticed the wave of people shocked, that there is no HL2DM) I also get the feeling that TF2 is now set in the HL world. If you look at the team battles in Hl2, you see alot of ideas there that directly bleed into their TF2 stuff (different team classes, plantable mines, dropships, gunships..etc). Plus, everyone and thier mother is doing a WW2, Vietnam, Desert Combat, style team-warfare game. This would really set TF2 apart from other games, and allow them the freedom to really create some cool s**t.

Yeah, TF2 becoming that sort of a Wolfenstein Enemy Territory thing (in the same universe, but separate from all those events) would be really cool. [addsig]

I thought they were just taking what they already made (like two years ago) and porting it to source with some tweaks. I do know they're fully developing TF2. It'll be stand alone (last I heard) with it's own SP and MP. Which will justify the $50 price tag. (This what I've heard and observed over the last few months) [addsig]

Bah, if that's true then I wouldn't have bothered buying hl2. Humbug!

No, not DoD:Source. DoD, like CS, is completely independent of the Half-Life/Half-Life 2 setting. It's in WW2. HL2 is set in a sci-fi near future.

Wolfenstein Enemy Territory was originally designed by Splash Damage as an add-on for RtCW. It was 'cancelled' and then released publicly as a stand-alone MP game that has become one of the most popular online. A comparable MP mode for HL2 would be rebels/freedom fighters vs. Combine on the streets of City 17, in the coastal regions, and anywhere else imaginable in the HL2 universe. Though if TF2 were done this way, it would seem better suited to an expansion than a retail product. *shrug* [addsig]

? quoting Orpheus
they had better not attempt to introduce any other MP crap until they have released HL2DM

TFC was s**t before, it will be s**t again, i am not keen on waiting for HL2DM just because of it.

also, no updates on CS either, they already treated everyone to CS/S, its time for some quality HLDM now.. I want the FULL SDK, or whatever it will take to get a valve sanctioned DM map made.

Amen, I hated TFC and I already HAVE all the CS:S stuff i need right now. I have a feeling I am really going to get let down.

I think the "surprise" is the release of DoD:Source. It's already on the games list, you know. Or it could be that big mappack for CS:S. Which would suck.

truth be told, i have completely lost interest at this point. i am still exactly where i was when i started, i just met alyx. between all these Xmas comps and real life things, i haven't had any time to drum up a lot of interest.

perhaps after the holidays.

hell, after i installed the editor, i didn't even set it up yet.

finding out that it shipped with no DM took all the wind out of my sails.

I'm inclined to agree with you mate - had there been a DM mode out of the box, I'd certainly have been playing and editing a whole lot more. As it stands, I've worn through the novelty of CS:S, and Halo 2 has grabbed away. I found HL2 an excellent single player game, but I think a good DM mode would have inspired me to map far more.

Not to mention a fully working, bug free SDK. I sure as s**t would be doing a tonne of mapping right now if they'd released something that worked most of the time and was actually finished. Especially if you could "officially" map for games other than CS: Source.

I know that Kage, I was saying it would have been nice to have released a fully working SDK in the first place, rather than release something that only half works some of the time, frustrating most people.
